Ten points for attention in storing seeds in winter to ensure germination rate
Seed germination
Seeds, like other organisms, breathe all the time to maintain their own life activities. The process of seed respiration is also the process of seed deterioration. How to carry out reasonable storage, maintain and improve the germination rate of seeds, and lay the foundation for a bumper harvest in the coming year, is an extremely important work. Let's sum up ten points:
First, pay attention to the prevention of high temperature. If the temperature is too high, the seed respiration is exuberant, which will consume too much of its own stored nutrients and reduce the germination rate, so the best ambient temperature for storing seeds is about 10 ℃. Do not put the seeds near the stove.
Second, pay attention to prevent mildew. The key is to control the moisture content of the seed itself. The water content of cereal crop seeds is 12%-13%, and that of oil crop seeds is 8%-9%. If the water content is too high, mildew is easy to occur, especially peanut, soybean, corn and other crop seeds that contain more oil and starch. Seed storage should thoroughly remove crop stems and leaves, weeds, soil and other debris, and strictly disinfect the storage room and storage utensils, so as to prevent seeds from mildew affected by pollutants during storage.
Third, be careful not to pack seeds in plastic bags. Seeds cannot be stored in plastic bags, jars of pickled vegetables or bags filled with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Because the plastic bags are airtight, the seeds are forced to breathe without oxygen in the bags, producing toxic substances such as alcohol and organic acids, killing the embryos, making the seeds lose their germination ability and causing mildew at the same time. Generally choose clean yarn woven cloth bags, gunny bags, textile bags or baskets covered with seeds.
Fourth, pay attention to the seeds should not contact with the ground. No matter using gunny bags, cloth bags or other containers to hold hybrid rice seeds, they should not be in direct contact with the ground.
Fifth, pay attention to smoking. Seeds fumigated by smoke for a long time will reduce seed activity and weaken germination rate, especially the kitchen with more smoke can not store seeds.
Be careful not to mix with other grain. The seeds of many crops are not easy to distinguish from ordinary grain, and a little carelessness will lead to mixed grain cultivation. Affect next year's output. Labels should be affixed inside and outside the seed bags to indicate the variety, type and quantity, and strictly prevent confusion.
Pay attention to that seeds should not be mixed with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Seeds can not be stored in the same room with pesticides and chemical fertilizers, because many pesticides and fertilizers have strong volatility, the volatile gas does great harm to seed cells and embryos, and directly affects the germination rate of seeds.
Be careful not to be hot and cold. Seeds stored outdoors in winter should not be transferred to warm rooms after freezing. And the seeds stored indoors should not be transferred outdoors, otherwise the germination rate of the seeds will be reduced.
Pay attention to the damage caused by moths and rodents. During the storage period, if the seeds do not have strict storage conditions, they are vulnerable to moth and rodents. Insects and mice not only eat the seeds directly, but also pollute the seeds, deteriorate the seeds and reduce the germination rate.
Pay attention to turning over and drying the seeds frequently. If the seeds are not sunburned for a long time after the increase of seed water content, it will not only become moldy and moth-eaten, but also affect the seed germination rate.
