Raising sheep

The reproduction of sheep occupies a very important position in the process of sheep production, so the working people want to improve the comprehensive quality of their offspring, so as to improve the economic benefits of the whole sheep industry. In order to improve the comprehensive quality of offspring lambs, the breeding sheep must be carefully selected and the pairing of rams and ewes must be determined. At present, one of the main problems in the sheep industry in our province is that the breed of sheep is not good and too chaotic. For example, Boer goats, the first generation is particularly good, while the second generation is not as good as the next generation. This problem is mainly caused by the selection of breeding sheep and the improper matching of mating partners. How to choose breeding sheep and determine the pairing of rams and ewes is mainly considered from the following aspects:

1. It depends on the actual local situation.

The most effective measure to rapidly improve the production performance of mutton sheep is economic cross utilization, through the introduction of excellent meat breeds to improve local sheep breeds to improve their growth rate and meat production performance. All localities should introduce and improve according to the germplasm characteristics of local breeds in order to improve the performance and growth speed of local goats. When the conditions permit, the cross improvement test should be done first, and then the improvement target should be determined so as to avoid falling into the strange circle of introduction and stir-frying.

two。 It depends on the size.

It depends on the size, fat, thin and appearance of the sheep to judge the purity and health of the breed. If the wool color, head type, horn and body type of the breeder sheep should meet the breed standard, you can ask the animal husbandry technician to help. The body shape, condition and physique of the breeder sheep should be strong, the forechest should be wide and deep, the limbs should be strong, and the muscle tissue should be developed. The ram should have a big and magnificent head, big eyes, symmetrical development and exuberant libido, and pay special attention to whether the testes are single or cryptorchidism; ewes should have long waist, high legs and well-developed breasts. Ewes with narrow chest, tilted rump, drooping abdomen and concave back, and X-shaped front and back limbs are not suitable for breeding.

3. It depends on age.

Judging mainly by the teeth, the goat has 32 teeth, of which 8 incisors are in the lower jaw.

At the age of 3-4 weeks, the 8 incisors of the lamb have grown neatly, milky white, relatively neat, tall and narrow in shape, close to a long column, called deciduous teeth, and the sheep at this time are called "original mouth" or "milk mouth". After 12-14 months of age, the two central incisors fall off and replace them with two larger teeth, which are yellow in color, wide and short in shape, close to square, and called permanent teeth, and the sheep at this time are called "second teeth" or "opposite teeth". After that, about one pair of teeth will be changed every year, and when all eight incisors are replaced with permanent teeth, the sheep will be called "Qikou".

Therefore, "Yuankou" sheep refers to sheep under 1 year old, "opposite teeth" is 1-1.5 years old, "four teeth" is 1.5-2 years old, "six teeth" is 2.5-3 years old, "eight teeth" is 3-4 years old. After 4 years old, the sheep age was judged mainly according to the grinding surface and gap size of incisor teeth; the cross section of teeth of 5-year-old sheep was round, and there were gaps between teeth; at 6 years old, the gap between teeth became wider and shorter; at 7 years old, the teeth were shorter, and began to fall off at 8 years old.

When introducing, we should carefully observe the teeth and judge the age of the sheep, so as to avoid misleading the old sheep.

4. To judge the health status of sheep

Healthy breeder sheep are lively and active, with bright eyes, shiny hair, exuberant appetite, normal breathing and body temperature, strong and powerful limbs, while diseased sheep have scattered, rough, dull eyes, standing, anorexia, shortness of breath, elevated body temperature, or diseases on the body surface and limbs.

5. Should be accompanied by a pedigree card and a quarantine certificate.

In general, sheep breeding farms have pedigree files, and breeder sheep should be accompanied by pedigree cards in order to grasp the blood relationship of breeder sheep and the production performance of their parents and grandparents, and to estimate the performance of breeder sheep themselves. When introducing species from other places, you should obtain a quarantine certificate from the introduction unit, first, you can understand the occurrence of the epidemic disease so as not to introduce sick sheep; second, only livestock and poultry breeds with complete procedures can be passed when inspected during transportation.
