The underground root system of sugarcane grows fast and the aboveground leaf grows slowly at seedling stage. The main direction of seedling management is to ensure that the seedlings are complete, full and strong, so as to lay a good foundation for the early tillering of sugarcane.

Sugarcane at seedling stage

The main management measures at the seedling stage are as follows:

First, check and replenish seedlings.

Sugarcane seedlings should be replenished where there is a lack of seedlings of more than 40 centimeters. The method of preparing seedlings can be adopted for replanting sugarcane seedlings, that is, seedling replanting at the edge of the ground at the same time, or seedling replanting with plastic film or bag bowl. The amount of prepared seedlings generally accounts for about 5% of the seed amount, and it is appropriate to replenish the seedlings when the sugarcane seedlings have 3-4 leaves, and drench the root water after rain or when the soil moisture is good.

Second, apply attack seedling fertilizer.

When the two leaves of sugarcane seedlings are in one heart, 5-8 kg of urea per mu, it is best to apply 500-2000 kg of rotten human feces per mu, and pay attention to the application of weak seedlings to achieve uniform and strong seedlings. For example, when there is a lack of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in the base fertilizer, sugarcane should be replenished at the seedling stage and thin soil should be cultivated after application.

Third, ploughing and weeding.

The aboveground part of sugarcane in seedling stage grows slowly, and the row spacing is wide, so it is easy to grow weeds. It is better to weed sugarcane 1-2 times by ploughing in time, and it is better to control it when weeds are 3-4 leaves.

Fourth, drought prevention and waterlogging prevention.

In case of drought at the seedling stage, the sugarcane field should be irrigated with horse water or drenched in time to resist drought. Another effective way to conserve water and resist drought is to plough and loosen the soil after rain. With the accumulation of water in the sugarcane field, the sugarcane stems before emergence are easy to be infected with pineapple disease, causing rotten seeds and rotten buds. After emergence, the root system of sugarcane is underdeveloped, the sugarcane seedlings turn yellow, and even the rotten roots die. Therefore, it must be drained and waterproof.
