Lamb

Lambs have the characteristics of fast weight gain, high feed reward, low product cost, short production cycle and high economic benefits. therefore, lamb fattening production has developed rapidly in recent years. Lamb fattening is a highly technical work. In practice, there are strict requirements for the implementation of various technical measures. Due to the difference of weaning weight, the fattening technical measures adopted by lambs are different. The fattening technical measures of lambs with different weaning weight are as follows.

First, preparation before fattening

The lambs were fed 15 days before weaning at 1.5 months old, or the ewes were separated from the lambs for a certain period of time in the morning and evening, so that the lambs could move in the enclosure with concentrate troughs and drinking fountains, and the rest of the time they were still in the same place. The supplementary feed should be the same as the fattening feed after weaning. The grain can be broken slightly at the beginning of supplementary feeding, and it is appropriate to feed the whole grain after getting used to it, not to be processed into powder. The floor of the lamb activity area should be dry, rain-proof, well ventilated and can be covered with a little bedding grass. The common infectious diseases of fattening lambs are enterotoxemia and hemorrhagic septicemia. Enterotoxemia vaccine can be injected into ewes before lambing or before weaning.

2. Prepare diets for fattening

Any kind of cereal feed can be used to fatten lambs, but the best effect is high-energy feed such as corn. The practice shows that the fattening effect of whole grain feed is better than that of broken grain feed, which is mainly manifested in high feed conversion rate and less gastrointestinal diseases. Recommended feed formula: 83% of whole corn, 15% of soybean cake, 1.4% of limestone powder, 0.5% of salt, 0.1% of multivitamins and trace elements. Among them, the addition amount of vitamins and trace elements per kilogram of feed is calculated as follows: vitamin A, D, E are 500IU, 1000 and 20IU, zinc sulfate 150mg, manganese sulfate 80mg, magnesium oxide 200mg, cobalt sulfate 5mg, potassium iodate 1mg. If there is no soybean cake, 10% fish meal can be used instead, and the proportion of corn can be adjusted to 88%.

III. Feeding techniques

The lambs are free to eat and drink. It is best to use a self-made simple automatic feed trough to prevent lambs from stepping into the trough, causing feed pollution and reducing feed intake and expanding the spread of coccidiosis and other bacteria. The height of the trough should be increased with the increase of lamb age, so that the feed in the trough should not accumulate or spill. If some lambs are found nibbling on the enclosure wall, a salt trough should be installed in the playground, and salt or salt plus the same amount of limestone powder should be put in the trough to allow the lambs to eat freely. It should also be noted that at the initial stage of eating whole corn, some corn kernels spit out from the mouth, and with the increase of age, the phenomenon of corn spitting disappears gradually, and the ruminating movements of lambs are less in the initial stage and more in the later stage, which are normal phenomena and do not affect the fattening effect. Under normal circumstances, the feces of the lambs are yellow in shape and there are no corn kernels in the droppings, but the lambs may have diarrhea in changing weather or rainy days. The feed formula will not be changed during the whole fattening period.

IV. Come out at the right time

The fattening period of lambs is 50 days. However, the fattening final weight is related to the breed, and the fattening final weight of lambs of large sheep breeds at the age of 3 months can reach more than 35kg. According to the study, the fattening final weight of fine wool lambs and non-meat breeds is related to the weaning weight of 1.5 months old. When the weaning weight is 13-15 kg, the fattening weight can reach more than 30 kg in 50 days, while when the weaning weight is less than 12 kg, the fattening final weight is about 25 kg.
