Carrots are rich in nutrients, rich in carotene, sugar, calcium, phosphorus, iron and other mineral elements, known as little ginseng. However, in the process of carrot cultivation, improper fertilization results in root cracking, hollow, deformity, aging quality and more firewood, so scientific and reasonable topdressing is very important to improve the yield of carrots.

First, the characteristics of fertilizer demand

Carrots need a lot of fertilizer. Studies have shown that 1000 kg of carrots need 2.4kg of pure nitrogen, 0.8kg of phosphorus pentoxide and 5.7kg of potassium oxide.

The nutrient requirements of carrots at different stages of growth and development are also very different. The absorption of various elements of carrots was not large within two months after sowing. In the middle and later stage, with the root system of carrots expanding, the growth increased rapidly, and the nutrient absorption also increased. The absorption amount of potassium was the most, followed by nitrogen and phosphorus.

2. Fertilization technology

1. Base fertilizer

The fertile and loose sandy loam is more suitable for carrots with deep roots. Deep ploughing and adequate basal fertilizer should be applied before sowing. Generally, 2000-2500 kg of rotten organic fertilizer and 30-40 kg of Stanley compound fertilizer are applied per mu.

2. Topdressing

In addition to applying base fertilizer, it is necessary to apply fertilizer for 2 or 3 times. The first time was 20-25 days after carrot emergence, after 3-4 true leaves, 5-10 kg potassium sulfate compound fertilizer was applied per mu. The second topdressing was carried out after the carrot seedlings were fixed, and 10-15 kg potassium sulfate compound fertilizer could be used per mu. During the peak period of carrot root expansion, the third topdressing was applied with 1520kg potassium sulfate compound fertilizer per mu.

3. Foliar fertilizer

Carrots have a great demand for boron. It can be sprayed once in the seedling stage and the leaf growth period, and 0.1%-0.5% boric acid solution or borax solution twice in the fleshy root expansion period.
