How to control the excessive growth of watermelon seedlings by consuming nutrients
June to July is the key period for watermelon flowering and fruiting in open field. Due to high temperature and rain, coupled with improper fertilization, it is easy to cause excessive growth of watermelon plants, that is,"crazy seedlings". Measures should be taken as soon as possible to control prosperous growth.
watermelon
Double ditch fertilization: If watermelon fertilization is too concentrated, not only easy to burn seedlings, but also easy to cause "crazy seedlings". Double-ditch fertilization method can effectively control seedling burning and "crazy seedling". Specific practice: 20~30 cm apart, open two furrows with depth and width of 20~30 cm, apply fertilizer into two furrows, ridge after fertilization, and plant melon in the middle of two fertilizer furrows. In this way, melon seedlings can absorb part of the fertilizer, melon seedlings strong but not prosperous.
Heavy pressure tap: For example, watermelon tender stem is highly warped, that is, dig a deep vine pressing groove on the ground near the stem tip of watermelon plant, press the tender stem into the groove, so that the stem tip is exposed to the vine pressing groove for 5-10cm, which can effectively control the top advantage of watermelon, inhibit excessive plant growth and improve the fruit setting rate at flowering stage.
Pantou pinch tip: watermelon into the expansion period, to properly inhibit the vine before the melon, not to make it prosperous, waste nutrition. The method is to pull back the vine in front of the watermelon, circle it on one side of the watermelon, and pinch off the vine tip. After this treatment, the growth of watermelon plants will be temporarily inhibited, but it will not hinder the later growth and development of watermelon.
