The main season of sheep foot rot disease is in spring, and the continuous spring rain is more likely to lead to the high incidence of foot rot disease.

Sheep

The occurrence of hoof rot in sheep is mainly due to the lack of mineral calcium, phosphorus, or imbalance of calcium to phosphorus ratio, lack of trace elements such as zinc and copper in the forage grass fed to sheep, resulting in loose hooves, and the sheep's hoof is very wet and muddy in spring. Sheep's hooves were soaked in feces, urine, mud and Rain Water for a long time, resulting in local tissue softening of sheep's hooves. In addition, some sharp substances such as pebbles, iron shavings, hard vegetation, glass ballast and so on pierce the soft tissue of sheep's hooves, which eventually cause inflammation of sheep's hooves due to bacterial infection.

During diagnosis and treatment, the side lying of the diseased sheep should be well protected, and special attention should be paid to prevent pregnant ewes from resisting violently during Baoding and treatment, causing ewes to have a miscarriage. First wash the diseased hooves of sheep with clean water and completely expose the rotting parts, then disinfect the diseased hooves with 0.5%pp powder or 3% cresol soap solution, and then trim the hoof shape of the sheep with a hoof cutter. If there is a foreign body stabbed into the rotten part, the foreign body should be removed first, and the diseased tissue of the rotten part should be thoroughly removed with a scalpel until fresh meat tissue is exposed. Then disinfect the clean lesion site with disinfectant, fill it with cotton yarn or sulfonamide cotton yarn soaked in iodine, then bandage and fix it with bandage and change the dressing once every 1 to 2 days. Feed the bandaged sick sheep in a clean barn and soak the diseased hoof 2 times a day with 10% copper sulfate solution for 5 minutes for 10 minutes each time until the sick sheep are cured. For sheep with severe hoof rot, tetracycline 500 million units, vitamin C 10 ml and 500 ml 10% glucose saline can be injected intravenously at the same time.

In order to prevent the occurrence of hoof rot in sheep, attention should be paid to keeping the sheep shed and sports ground clean and dry. During the spring rain, you should frequently pad in the sheep house and sports ground to keep the sheep house and sports ground dry and clean. At the same time, it is necessary to increase the grazing exercise time and sunshine time of the sheep, keep the sheep's hooves dry, and often clear away the sharp foreign bodies such as glass ballast, stones, iron shavings, plants and trees in the sheephouses, sports grounds and pastures, and pay attention to avoiding the sheep's hooves from being stabbed by sharp foreign bodies, so as to reduce the chance of infection of sheep's hooves. In the feeding of sheep, sheep farmers should pay special attention to the supply of mineral phosphorus, calcium and trace elements such as copper and zinc in addition to the reasonable collocation of fine, coarse and green fodder of sheep. If the forage fed to the sheep lacks calcium, phosphorus or the imbalance between calcium and phosphorus, 0.5% 0.1% bone powder can be added to the forage, and sheep licking bricks can be hung in the sheep house to supplement the mineral calcium, phosphorus and other trace elements needed for the growth and development of sheep. In view of the lack of trace elements zinc and copper in the forage feed for sheep, copper sulfate and zinc sulfate can also be fed 4.5 mg per kilogram of body weight per day for each sheep. For sheep with a high incidence of foot rot, copper sulfate solution can be used to soak the hoof of sheep to prevent it. The method is to build a cement disinfection pool at the entrance and exit of the sheep house, and put the copper sulfate solution with a concentration between 10% and 30% into the pool, and let the sheep stay in the copper sulfate solution for a few minutes when the sheep enter and leave the sheep house. Sheep's hoof is often dipped in copper sulfate solution, which can effectively prevent sheep hoof rot, and it is economical and practical.
