Thrips maydis is one of the main insect pests in maize seedling stage, because of drought and the change of maize farming system, especially the diversity of maize sowing period. However, thrips are small and hidden, so they are not easy to be found and easy to miss the control period.

corn thrips

1. Harm symptoms: corn thrips, small Thysanoptera pests, are one of the main pests in corn seedling stage. When corn was damaged, yellow thrips first damaged the back of corn leaves, and grass thrips and rice tube thrips first damaged the front of corn leaves. Both of them could make corn leaves appear intermittent silver-white stripes accompanied by small spots. Severely damaged corn leaves are often coated with silver powder. Thrips concentrate on young leaves and heart leaves of corn. After corn leaves are damaged, they present pale stripes. Serious leaf end is dry and heart leaves cannot be extracted. Even if they are extracted, individual plants grow later. Heart leaves are twisted and leaves cannot be unfolded, making leaves grow abnormally in the shape of "ox tail". Most of them are clustered crazy tops or cause a large number of dead corn seedlings or even destroy seeds.

II. Control methods:

1. Combined with field seedling determination, pluck out insect seedlings, take them out of the field for destruction, reduce insect sources and prevent their spread.

2, increase fertilizer, timely watering, increase farmland humidity, inhibit thrips growth and development, promote corn early growth, create an environment that is not conducive to thrips survival, in order to reduce harm.

3. Control thrips in time when the percentage of thrips in corn field reaches 5% or the number of thrips in 100 plants reaches 30. Commonly used chemicals: 3% acetamiprid EC 2000 times, 40% chlorpyrifos EC 1500 times, 10% imidacloprid WP 1500 times, 4.5% beta-cypermethrin 1000 times.
