During the growth of celery, especially in the middle and later stage, the base of the stem and petiole of celery cracked at the same time, which not only affected the quality of celery, but also easily infected and made celery mildew.

Celery petiole cracked

First, symptoms: there are cracks in the stem and the base of the stem, showing a straight or wavy burst, the outer leaves of the plant are easy to yellowing, and the bacteria take the opportunity to invade, causing rot. Boron deficiency in celery can also cause vertical or transverse cracking and petiole splitting, so we should pay attention to the difference.

Second, etiology

1. Variety degradation: natural hybridization between celery and common celery.

2. Boron deficiency in soil: excessive application of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer in soil will often inhibit the absorption of boron by celery and cause boron deficiency in celery. This is the main reason for the cracking of celery petiole.

3. The plant is frozen: celery is not resistant to severe cold. When the temperature is low, it is easy to be frozen. After the temperature rises, the tissue can not recover, resulting in hollow or cracking.

III. Prevention and control methods

The main results are as follows: 1. To increase the application of organic fertilizer, the formula fertilization technique of soil test fertilization is advocated to prevent the application of too much nitrogen fertilizer. Improve soil, increase soil drought resistance, strengthen water and fertilizer management, timely drainage after rain, watering must be watered frequently, keep the soil not dry or wet, do not suddenly dry and wet flood irrigation.

2. It is necessary to diagnose the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and boron in the soil where celery is planted year after year. If boron has been deficient, 0.8 kg of borax per mu can be applied in the formula fertilization to supplement boron fertilizer, but not excessive.

3. Spray 0.2%-0.3% borax solution on the leaves of celery during the growing period, and spray it again after 5-7 days.

4. It is necessary to prevent high temperature in summer cultivation, and conditionally advocate the use of sunshade to reduce the harm of high temperature to celery.

5. Celery must be strictly isolated from other celery varieties when keeping seeds.
