Newborn lamb tetanus, also known as umbilical wind, four or six wind, is caused by the infection of tetanus through the umbilical cord of lambs by cutting the umbilical cord with unsterilized scissors or ligating the umbilical cord with dirty thread. Tetanus is an anaerobic bacteria, which exists in soil and feces. If sheep farmers do not do a good job in environmental hygiene, disinfection and sterilization of the sheepfold, and do not carefully disinfect and ligate the navel of the lamb during delivery, it will cause the lamb to be infected with tetanus.

Four or six days after birth, it was difficult for the lamb to suck, gradually closed teeth, unable to open mouth, hemifacial spasm, smaller eye seams, outward traction of mouth quarrels, and a spasmodic wry smile. When the whole body is spasmodic, the head is leaned back, the spine is kyphosis, showing the reverse expansion of the angular arch. In severe cases, the respiratory muscle and diaphragm of the lamb have spasms and finally have difficulty breathing and suffocate to death.

Sheep

One is to kill germs. Tetanus is anaerobes, hidden in dirty soil and feces, so the daily environmental hygiene of sheep pens should be done well. Every 5-7 days, disinfect the inside and outside of the sheepfold with lime water and Lysur liquid. Clean sheep droppings every day, change mat soil frequently, clean regularly, keep sheep pens clean and dry, and completely eliminate tetanus hideouts.

Second, the disinfection and ligation of lamb navel should be done well. After giving birth, immediately use a clean dishcloth to clean and dry the mucus in the mouth, nose, ears and all over the body. After cleaning the umbilical wound with 3% hydrogen peroxide, cut the umbilical cord with sterilized scissors, fasten it with sterilized thread from the umbilical cord 5cm, and apply 5% iodine tincture.

The third is advanced immunity. Newborn lambs can be injected with 1500 units of tetanus antitoxin.
