Evergreen grass is a general term for plants of the genus Sempervivum (scientific name: Sedum). At present, evergreen grass is still relatively unpopular in China, evergreen grass lovers can be said to be a small and small group, and the common varieties on the market are Guanyin lotus, spider silk curly Juan, Dahong curly Juan, purple peony and so on.

(some of the pictures in this article were taken by Vivian gardening in Kunming.)

Long-growing grass for alpine succulent plants, like sufficient sunshine and cool dry environment, suitable for acidic, neutral, alkaline all kinds of soil, in addition to summer high temperature appropriate shade, avoid hot sun exposure, other seasons should be sunny, winter watering control, ability to-20 ℃ low temperature. The plants are dormant in high temperature in summer and cold in winter. The cooler spring and autumn seasons are its main growth period, which requires sufficient sunlight. If the light is insufficient, the plant type will be loose and not compact, which will affect its appearance and ornamental appearance, while the plant growing in the place with sufficient light will have plump and plump leaves, compact plant type and beautiful leaf color. It looks very beautiful.

In taxonomy, the evergreen grass belongs to the family crassulaceae, belonging to the genus Euphorbiaceae, which originally lived in the high mountains of south-central Europe. Here is barren gravel, so its leaves become thick and succulent, used to store precious water and nutrients. The mountain is cold and windy, so the whole plant shrinks into a lotus shape to avoid being blown dry by the wind.

Below, with my limited knowledge of long-growing grass, I would like to introduce some of the varieties of long-growing grass that I like. However, the family of long-growing grass is too large to introduce only a small part of it. If you like me, I will introduce it to you later.

Paper kite:

Mustang: (actually, I don't know the difference between Mustang and night elves)

Easter eggs:

Night elves:

Youya:

Although with hair, he is not afraid of the cold and the elegance of frost

Suzanne spider silk:

Sunflower spider silk: (a fragrant spider silk variety)

The spider silk evergreen grass has a huge family with more than 300 family members. Sunflower silk, Suzanne, black widow, marshmallow are just some of them, and there are many spider silk that I can't name. Here's a look at the picture I moved from the German evergreen website.

Evergreen grass covered by snow and ice, so many friends in the north who love succulent plants but give up because of the cold climate can try to raise growing grass and will never freeze to death. It is difficult to say that you have fallen in love with this species of growing grass uncontrollably.

The main taxonomic dispute of the genus Jovibarba is the division between this genus and the genus Euphorbia. The morphology of Euphorbia is very similar to that of Euphorbia, but the most obvious difference is that the petals of Euphorbia are 6 and occasionally 7, while that of Euphorbia is 818; the flowers of Euphorbia are yellow-white and bell-shaped, while the flowers of Euphorbia are pink and star-shaped. The difference between unflowered plants is that the evergreen grass will grow lateral buds in the leaf axils at the bottom of the rosette, while the lateral buds grow close to the leaf center and seem to split from the leaf center, even though the lateral buds of some species are lower. But the lateral buds are spherical, smaller than the young plants, and the leaves are more compact.

The aristocrat of everlasting grass-Shenxu grass, this is a magical variety, dark leaves inlaid with gold or silver similar to the moon shadow ice edge, fascinating.

However, what is even more peculiar is the mode of reproduction of asparagus. The reproduction of asparagus is different from that of other species of long-growing grass. Let's take a look at the other ways of reproduction.

Take a healthy plant of asparagus that needs to reproduce (here is the moment to witness miracles)

Find a sharp scalpel, cut it down by hand and cut it into 4 pieces like an apple

Then dry the wound, and then insert it in a basin, after a period of growth, the cut into blocks will grow into a complete asparagus.

Long-growing grass planting experience (personal experience, for reference only): long-growing grass is a kind of alpine succulent plant, likes a sunny and cool and dry environment, high humidity, high temperature and long-growing grass is easy to melt in the rainy season, and there are more Rain Water in summer in Kunming. I generally grow grass with soil particles accounting for about 80%. I prefer to use red pottery pots to plant, the water dries faster, it is not easy to suffocate the evergreen grass. Because my geographical conditions are relatively superior to other places, I usually breed all year round, but in areas with high temperature and humidity in summer, shading is recommended, with less water or water cut off as far as possible.

The evergreen grass, like the lotus palm, dies after flowering, but it produces a large number of bulbs before flowering, and the seeds produced after flowering grow into new plants after falling to the ground, not even in winter, but reproduce more and more every year. So Europeans think that it can live forever (in fact, it dies after flowering, but often leaves countless offspring before death). The Latin name Srmpervivum of the genus Euphorbia consists of two words: simper (forever) and vivus (survival).

The land in the producing area of Changsheng grassland is very barren, but it is also growing well, so I seldom use fertilizer in the daily planting process (because I think it will burst quickly without fertilizer, will it be crazier to use fertilizer? buying pots can't afford it.) but in the planting base of mass production, it is common to mix a certain amount of slow-release fertilizer in the picture to accelerate growth and bud explosion.

Many people think that long-growing grass is easy to grow scale insects, in fact, succulent plants are easy to produce scale insects. In the process of planting, you should pay attention to regularly clean up the dead leaves and eliminate the breeding hotbed of scale insects. Adding a certain amount of small white medicine or small purple medicine to the soil during planting can play a protective role to a certain extent. If insect pests have occurred, you can spray the flower protection god and scale must be treated, but you must pay attention to safety and drug concentration.

Evergreen grass can easily become a large group, especially in the growing season of spring and autumn, a single head can burst several or even dozens of lateral buds, as long as the conditions are suitable, the lateral buds will take root without even sticking to the soil. some varieties will fall off from the female parent to take care of themselves when they grow to a certain size, and a new group will be formed after a few months.

Here are some beautiful pictures for you to enjoy:

What I introduce to you is only a drop in the bucket of the evergreen grass family, and I am just a lover who has just hit the road. Maybe every succulent lover has one or two kinds of evergreen grass in his home. I hope today's introduction will give you a new understanding of evergreen grass. Also hope to slowly expand the ranks of long-growing grass enthusiasts.
