sugarcane mosaic

(1)Pathological characteristics and pathogenesis of sugarcane mosaic disease

① Main symptoms: In the early stage of disease, there are short stripes mixed with green and light yellow on banana leaves, such as stripes, irregular ovals, oblong circles, short needles or radial extensions along the midvein. Sugarcane mosaic disease is more obvious at the base of young leaves, such as sunlight, the disease spots are clearly visible.

② Pathogenesis: Sugarcane mosaic disease is a virus disease, the pathogen is rod-shaped, the size is about 750 nm ×13 nm. The lethal temperature is 50~58℃, and it can survive for 1~2 days in vitro. Mosaic virus can infect 5 species of sugarcane genus and some gramineous plants such as maize, sorghum, purple pennisetum, crabgrass, etc. Among the 5 sugarcane species, tropical species were highly susceptible, Indian species, wild species with large stem, Chinese species, and Cutthroat species were highly resistant or immune. The inbred cultivars with strong disease resistance are used as seeds, and their plants have strong immunity or high disease resistance. Relatively high temperature and little rain conditions are conducive to the spread of disease, but hot weather can inhibit the development of disease. Young sugarcane is more susceptible to disease than mature sugarcane.

(2)control methods

① Use sugarcane varieties with strong disease resistance, such as Guitang 11, Taitang 134, Mintang 70-611, etc.

(2) In the seriously ill area, the diseased plants should be pulled out while the highly susceptible sugarcane varieties should be eliminated, and the roots should be prohibited in the diseased area. The intermediate hosts such as corn and sorghum should not be planted near the sugarcane field.

(3) The sugarcane cutting tools shall be disinfected by baking for a while, so as to eliminate the spreading insect vectors and strengthen the cultivation management.

④ Sugarcane seeds suspected of having disease can be soaked in warm water. The method is: soaking seeds at constant temperature for 3 times, treating once every other day, soaking seeds for 20 minutes each time. The first soaking temperature was 52℃, and the second and third soaking temperatures were 57℃.
