After the winter fruit trees enter the dormant period, the nutrients flow back to the roots from the tree body. in the years of lack of rain in autumn and less snow in winter, pouring frozen water can promote the decay and decomposition of base fertilizer, which is beneficial to the differentiation of flower buds in winter and spring, and keep sufficient soil moisture to prevent drought and freezing in winter to ensure flowering and fruiting in the following year. This means that it is best to irrigate the orchard soil before freezing, and winter irrigation is also called frozen water.

Winter irrigation of fruit trees

First, the effect of winter irrigation on fruit trees:

1. Improve the cold resistance of fruit trees and ensure safe overwintering.

2. Accelerating the ripening of organic fertilizer is beneficial to the absorption of minerals by roots, increase the accumulation of nutrients in trees, increase soil water content, prevent spring drought and improve the yield and quality of fruit trees.

3. It can prevent drought. Storing water in the soil by winter irrigation can not only improve the frost resistance of fruit trees, but also prevent drought in winter and spring. Winter irrigation increases soil moisture to prevent fruit trees from drying and freezing due to water loss. At the same time, due to the increase of soil water content, it is beneficial for the root system to absorb water and nutrients, and increase the frost resistance and drought resistance of fruit trees.

4. Wind erosion can be eliminated. When the wind is dry in severe winter, it is often "the wind blows the soil, the roots of the trees are exposed, the freezing damage is heavy, and the trees fall down". The soil on the slope beach is light, loose and poor, while winter irrigation can make the soil moist, strong wind, heat preservation and anti-freezing.

Second, the best time for winter irrigation:

The appropriate irrigation time for fruit trees in winter is from fruit harvest to soil freezing. Winter irrigation is too early, the temperature is relatively high, evaporation is large, which is not conducive to water storage and soil moisture conservation, and reduces the cold resistance and frost resistance of fruit trees. Too late, due to low temperature, soil hardening, water can not seep down, stagnant water is frozen, the roots of fruit trees are vulnerable to freezing damage. The winter irrigation time of fruit trees is generally 5 ℃ in 5cm soil layer and 3 ℃ in daytime. At this time, even if the temperature drops below 0 ℃ at night and freezes, it can still thaw after the temperature rises during the day.

Third, the amount of irrigation:

The amount of winter irrigation of fruit trees is that on the same day after irrigation, all the water seeps into the ground and seeps into the root distribution layer, that is, minor fruit trees 20-30cm, adult fruit trees 70-100cm, and the soil moisture should be kept at 60% of the maximum field capacity. Too little can not meet the needs of fruit trees; too much fertilizer will be washed to the rootless area, resulting in fertilizer waste, without saving water, electricity and labor. When judging, the depth of water seepage can be seen by digging a pit outside the tree plate 3 hours after irrigation.

Winter irrigation

Fourth, winter irrigation methods:

1. Well irrigation: if the condition is good, the well irrigation method should be adopted to irrigate the fruit trees, increase the nutrition of the fruit trees and improve the growth of the fruit trees. Before well irrigation, in the field of fruit trees, according to the fruit trees, dig and repair the canals, open the sluice and release water, and irrigate thoroughly, so that the fruit trees have enough to drink, increase the water in the roots, and improve the growth ability.

2, watering roots: 1-2-year-old fruit trees, watering roots, perennial fruit trees, surrounded by soil into an elliptical ridge, soil ridge height of 15-20cm, prevent watering outflow, save water, achieve watering concentration, so that the water permeability is strong. After watering the first day, the next day, use the soil to cultivate the soil, cultivate the soil 15-20cm, and protect the roots.

3. Gully: for perennial fruit trees, make a small ditch far away from the 50-70cm. Pour water into the ditch, and the water will sink to the roots and be absorbed by the roots. If it is impermeable for the first time, water it again the next day, fill the ditch with soil, and firmly prevent the roots from frostbite by ventilation. When ditching and adding soil, don't hurt the roots, otherwise it will affect the growth of fruit trees.

Fifth, cover and preserve soil moisture:

After winter irrigation, straw, wheat straw, husk, wheat bran and weeds were used to cover the ground of the whole garden to preserve soil moisture and prevent freezing. When covering, the straw was cut into 10cm short joints to prevent it from being blown by the wind. If there is no covering condition, after irrigation, the fruit trees will hoe and loosen the soil shallowly to prevent and reduce water evaporation.
