When the lamb is born, some critical diseases often occur, such as improper or untimely rescue methods, which often cause death and bring losses to production. Here is a brief introduction to the common emergency and treatment of lambs as follows:

Lamb

1. Lambs inhale fetal water

Symptoms: after birth, the lamb has shortness of breath, obvious opening of ribs, like to stand, head down and eyes closed, due to dyspnea, intermittent sucking, and chills in the mouth and nose. If they are not treated in time, most of them will die after 3-4 hours.

Treatment: use 20 ml of 50% concentrated glucose injection, add 0.2 ml of Anaca, an intravenous injection; at the same time, intramuscular injection of penicillin 5-100000 units, an interval of 4-6 hours, re-use of medicine (if the weather is cold, glucose solution and Annacca can be heated and then intravenous injection).

2. Rupture of umbilical cord and bleeding

Symptoms: after giving birth, the lamb broke or accidentally pulled off the umbilical cord, bleeding, gradually depressed spirit of the lamb, pale conjunctiva, unstable standing, and then lost blood to death.

Treatment: mainly according to the residual length of umbilical cord rupture. If the umbilical cord is bleeding more than ten minutes after the birth of the lamb, and there is still part of the umbilical cord root remaining, the umbilical cord root can be tightly fastened with sterilized suture to stop the bleeding. If the umbilical cord is broken at the base and bleeding, the skin around the base of the umbilical cord can be sutured and ligated with the bag suture method. Hemostatic and anti-inflammatory drugs were injected at the same time.

3. Postpartum weak lambs

Symptoms: congenitally malnourished lambs are born with weak bodies and thin legs, unable to stand. The weak lambs caused by other reasons showed shallow and weak breathing, weak limbs, body temperature at room temperature, cold at the end of the limbs and the tip of the ear and nose, and mostly in a coma.

Treatment: first, take a warm bath and soak the lamb's body in warm water with 40 ℃ warm water in a large basin, with the head stretched out of the basin to prevent choking to death. Turn it from time to time while taking a bath. When the water temperature drops, pour out part of it and mix it with some hot water to keep the water temperature around 42 ℃. After half an hour of water bath, the lamb has a fever in his mouth, opens his eyes, and sucks his milk, that is, he dries to put it in a warm shelter and feeds it to colostrum.

For those with weak physique or serious illness, 25% glucose and 10% calcium gluconate can be injected at the same time of warm water bath. Malnourished weak lambs should take comprehensive measures to treat them after a warm bath: on the one hand, they should strengthen supplementary feeding of ewes and feed rich in protein and succulent feed to ensure adequate milk; on the other hand, they should be supplemented with cod liver oil and human milk powder, or intramuscular injection of vitamin AD, and be carefully fed and assisted in breast-feeding to keep them warm and clean, so as to prevent them from being abandoned by ewes after extrusion and water bath.
