Winter is not only a hurdle in bee life, but also a hurdle for beekeepers. If due to mismanagement, a large number of bees die, resulting in heavy losses. Causes of overwintering death of honeybees and preventive measures:

Overwintering management of honeybee

First, starve to death due to lack of feed. Did not leave enough sugar spleen before overwintering, or did not replenish it in time, eventually due to lack of feed, hunger and cold, a large number of bees starved to death, or even the whole box died. Therefore, it is necessary to master that bees have the function of regulating body temperature in groups during the low temperature period in winter, and that they are afraid of hunger but not cold. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that there is an adequate supply of feed during the overwintering period.

Second, the packing is too tight and suffocates to death due to injury and heat. When packing the beehive, because the inside and outside of the beehive are filled with insulation, then wrapped with film and tied with ropes, the beehive is tightly wrapped and airtight. The temperature in the box was high and the humidity was high, and the bees were suffocated due to heat injury, poor ventilation and moisture drainage. In the south, the winter is short and the days when the temperature in the severe cold period is lower than 0 ℃ are few, so doing a good job of cold prevention and heat preservation outside the box can ensure the honeybees to survive the winter safely.

Third, the nest door is so small that the bees are killed. During the severe cold period, due to leaving the nest door too narrow or tightly closed, and neglecting to check afterwards, when there is sunny and warm weather, bees are eager to get out of the nest for excretion and test flight, and a large number of bees are killed because they are unable to get in and out. this phenomenon occurs from time to time among novice beekeepers. Therefore, after this operation, inspection is very necessary.

Fourth, rats are bitten to death. The beehive is easy to be gnawed by rats, even live with bees, eat honey and bite bees. When spring warms up the beehive packaging, countless dead bees are found, resulting in heavy losses. In particular, the mouse, also known as Mickey Mouse, is small and can be drilled directly from the beehive door and bites bees, causing great harm. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent rodent damage.

Fifth, the stolen bees "died in battle". Chinese bees were stolen by Italian bees, but were outnumbered and finally died of fatigue due to defeat in the war.

Sixth, go out and freeze to death. It is beginning to clear up after the snow, and the temperature is still below 0 ℃, so it is said that the snow is not cold and melting snow is cold. Due to the strong light stimulation, the light bees flew out of the hive one after another, and the distant bees fell to the snow and were unable to take off, but were frozen to death. Although some bees flew to the hive, they were unable to return to the hive and were frozen to death. Especially in the cold period, tiles or bricks can be used to block the nest door to prevent the sun from coming in and lead the bees out of the nest.
