Strawberries grow into late autumn and gradually enter a dormant period. The root system of strawberry is shallow, tolerant to-8 ℃ low temperature and short time-10 ℃ low temperature. If the temperature drops again, frost injury will occur and die in severe cases. The overwintering cold prevention measures of strawberries in the north are mainly mulching. Overwintering mulch protects against cold and preserves moisture, which is conducive to the growth of strawberries. The rough covered strawberries sprouted late, the growth was weak, and the yield decreased obviously.

Strawberry cold cover

1. Coverage time:

Every year in early winter, when strawberries are tempered by several frosts and the temperature drops to-7 ℃, and the soil "freezes during the day and at night", mulching is the most suitable.

2. Coverage method:

1. Cover time. Before strawberries are covered with cold protection, pour antifreeze water for several times and fill it thoroughly. Irrigation should be carried out when the soil is about to enter the freezing period, and the ground should be covered one week after irrigation.

two。 Covering material. Available crop straw, leaves, soft grass, rotten horse dung, fine circle fertile soil and so on. If covered with soil, first cover a small amount of grass, and then cover the soil, to prevent spring soil damage to strawberries.

3. Overlay thickness. It depends on the local climate and the thermal insulation performance of the covering material. The general thickness is 3~5cm, and the mu grass is about 20000kg.

4. Override method. Cover is divided into two times, after pouring frozen water, a little dry, first cover part of the material, after a few days, when the temperature no longer rises, and then all cover strictly.

5. Set up wind barriers to protect against the cold. If the snow is stable, wind barriers can be set up to prevent the cold, but not covered by the ground. Every 10-15 meters, a wind barrier can be set up with sorghum stalks, corn stalks, Reed mats and so on. The height of the barrier is 2 to 2.5 meters. If there are conditions, cold-proof cloth and colored steel tiles can be used to set up wind barriers in the garden, and the effect is also very good.

6. The period of removal of the mulch. It was carried out in two stages after it began to thaw in the spring of the following year. When the first average temperature is higher than 0 ℃, remove the thawed mulch. If there is too much rain and snow in winter, it is necessary to remove it in time to thaw the lower layer, which is conducive to sunlight and improve the ground temperature. The second time when strawberries are about to sprout, do not remove the cold protection too late, so as not to damage the new stem.

7. Covered with plastic film. Use plastic film 0.008mm to 0.015mm thick polyethylene transparent film. After the strawberries are watered with frozen water, wait for the surface to dry, flatten the border, and cover the plastic film according to the direction of the border. When covering the film, it is necessary to tighten the plastic film and lay it flat, so that the plastic film and the border surface are tightly pressed with soil, and then covered with a small mound in the middle to prevent the wind from blowing through the film, and then cover the mulch. In snow-covered areas, strawberries can be directly covered with 10cm thick wheat straw, thatch and rice straw, and then covered with plastic film, which is better than covering with plastic film first.
