Winter is the peak lambing season for ewes, but the postpartum paralysis of ewes troubles many sheep farmers. Ewe paralysis mainly occurs in the late pregnancy or after lambing, which is mainly caused by the decrease of blood glucose and blood calcium of ewes.

Ewe

First, symptoms:

In the early stage of the disease, ewes are mentally poor, do not eat grass, do not regurgitate, have soft hindlimbs, walk unsteadily, fall to the ground, and have no defecation. When puncturing the skin with acupuncture, the pain response is weak and the body temperature is normal. In severe cases, the head and limbs are straight, breathing is deep and slow, the heartbeat is weak, the ears and horns are cold, the skin is painless, and the patient is in a coma.

2. Prevention:

1. Supplement mineral feed to pregnant ewes. If 3% bone meal and 5% black bean powder are added to the feed, the disease can be prevented and treated.

2. For high-yield sheep, calcium tablets such as Duowei calcium tablets should be added before and after delivery, 10-20 tablets a day, mixed with concentrate, which also has preventive effect.

3. Treatment:

1. During the treatment, 25 ml of 20% calcium gluconate solution can be injected intramuscularly, while Astragalus Polysaccharide injection 10 ml 20 ml, twice a day for 3 days. It can also be injected intramuscularly with 50 mg of VB1 and 8 ml of vitamine calcium once a day for 5-7 days.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine therapy: take "pine needle Huangqi decoction" internally, prescription: fresh pine needle 200g, astragalus 100g, ginger 25g, total decoction, add 100g lactose, waiting temperature, filling or feeding, 1 dose a day, twice in the morning and evening, 3 doses. Or use "dragon bone soup", prescription: keel 150 grams, Angelica sinensis, cooked land 35 grams each, safflower 10 grams, malt 100 grams, decoction, twice a day oral or mixing, combined with 3 doses, the curative effect is remarkable.

3. Breast acupoint therapy can be used for ewes with postpartum paralysis, and the curative effect is quite good. When the ewe is breastfeeding, the 10 ml milk extruded from the mother's nipple is absorbed with a sterilized syringe and injected into the milk base point with No. 12 short needle, 5 ml per hole, once a day, 2 times in a row. The location of the milk base point: there is one point on the left and right side near the anterior and lateral side of the umbilical nipple.
