Carrot bifurcation

First, the reason for bifurcation. The main reasons for carrot fleshy root bifurcation are as follows:

1. Seed quality. Carrot seeds have weak viability and poor germination, which affect the growth of young roots, and some radicles are destroyed and easy to bifurcate; carrot seeds harvested in rainy season are easy to form embryo dysplasia or embryo-free seeds because of poor pollination. Fleshy roots are easy to bifurcate.

2. Soil causes. There are gravel, bricks, tiles, roots and other hard objects in the soil that hinder the growth of carrot main roots and produce bifurcations; shallow and hard plots in the tillage layer are also easy to hinder the growth of main roots and promote the development of adventitious roots.

3. The reason of fertilization. Excessive or uneven fertilization may lead to high EC value of carrot root tip soil. The root tip of carrot taproot is affected by high concentration of soil ions, which promotes the growth of adventitious roots and causes bifurcation.

4. Improper management. Watering is unreasonable, if the carrot taproot is not watered in case of drought, it will make the soil too hard and can not be rooted under the main root, and it is easy to form bifurcations. The reason for this bifurcation is especially obvious when watering is impermeable or the topography is higher.

5. Damage caused by underground pests. Mole cricket, grub and other underground pests bite the carrot main root, destroy the main root, promote the adventitious root growth, resulting in bifurcation.

Second, ways to prevent carrots from bifurcating:

1. Select high-quality and high-yield varieties with straight fleshy roots and bifurcation tolerance, such as Japanese five-inch ginseng and Hongyu five-inch ginseng.

2. When buying seeds, choose fresh, full and fully developed carrot seeds.

3. Plots should be ploughed deeply, not shallower than 25~30cm, vertical and horizontal fine rakes 2 times, and strive for fine soil. When preparing the land, do not miss ploughing and raking, especially on the edge of the ground. At the same time, we should pick up the broken bricks, tiles, stones, roots and other sundries in the ground.

4. Reasonable watering should be done in the critical period. When watering, water thoroughly and remember to water the horse.

5. Organic manure should be fully mature. When applying fertilizer, strive to spread it evenly.

6. Pay attention to the control of underground pests and avoid harming carrots.
