In the process of breeding, sometimes after the ewe gives birth, the lamb loses milk due to too many lambs, insufficient nipples or the death of the ewe. The artificial lactation methods and matters needing attention of weaned lambs are briefly described as follows for sheep farmers' reference.

Artificial lactation of lambs

1. Artificial lactation of weaned lambs:

1, the lactation device drink milk method: put the milk into the lactation device, the nipple is coated with milk, stuffed into the mouth of the lamb, trained a few times, you can learn to breast-feed. Or using a lamb who has learned to breast-feed with a breast-feeding device as an example can also achieve the purpose of training.

2. Box drinking method: put milk or substitute milk into a small box and let the lambs drink by themselves. At the beginning, the nurse cut, polished and washed the nails, dipped the index or middle finger in the milk, let the lamb suck, and slowly lured the lamb's mouth to the milk. after several times of training, the lamb will have the milk from the drinking box.

2. Pay attention to matters:

1. Feed it on time. Artificial lactation of lambs should abide by the prescribed time and be fed sequentially, starting every 3 hours, 4-5 times a day, and gradually reduce the times and increase the feeding amount with the increase of age.

2. Feed it according to the quantity. Give the right amount of milk to the lambs. At first, each lamb was fed 200-300 grams at a time. With the increase of age, the feeding amount gradually increased, but the daily feeding amount did not exceed 20% of the body weight. After reaching the peak at the age of 40 days, the feed intake decreased gradually and the feed intake increased gradually.

3. Ensure the quality of milk. The milk fed to the lamb should be fresh and clean, and should be stirred during heating and distribution so that the milk fat is evenly distributed.

4. The milk temperature is constant. Milk temperature should be 38-40 ℃, milk temperature is too low, easy to cause gastrointestinal diseases, too high will affect lactation, and even burn the mouth of lambs.

5. Pay attention to the feeding tube. In order to prevent diseases, lamb drinking utensils should be kept clean, disinfect them with hot alkali water regularly, wipe their mouths with towels after breast-feeding, so as not to lick each other. Lambs are kept in isolation and utensils are used separately to prevent mutual transmission.
