Diarrhea is a common disease in rabbits in spring, with high morbidity and mortality. There are many causes of diarrhea, which can be divided into two categories, namely infectious factors and non-infectious factors. Non-communicable diarrhea is often caused by secondary bacterial infection due to the decrease of rabbit resistance, which worsens the disease.

1. Cause of the disease:

(1) Infectious pathogenic factors: mainly caused by viruses, bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Clostridium), parasites (such as coccidia, worms), molds and other pathogens. These pathogens damage the intestinal mucosal epithelium of rabbits, cause intestinal inflammation, produce toxins, cause enterotoxemia, make a large amount of body fluid seep into the intestinal cavity, and cause diarrhea.

(2) non-infectious factors: mainly due to improper feeding, such as sudden change of forage, early weaning, gluttony after weaning, cold and damp rabbit house, feeding rotten and moldy feed, eating dewy forage or frozen feed, drinking unclean water and so on.

2. Prevention and control methods:

First of all, find out the cause and eliminate the pathogenic factors. Stop or reduce the amount of concentrate feed, increase the amount of high-quality hay, and take bacteria-promoting tablets, lactase tablets and yeast tablets. Take 0.5 grams per kilogram of body weight per day or 0.5 grams per rabbit per day to adjust the structure of intestinal flora and restore the balance of intestinal microecology. In the early stage of the disease, mainly injection drugs, careful use of antibiotics, can not take antibiotics. When diarrhea is serious, fluid should be rehydrated in time, it is best to choose 5% glucose saline for intravenous injection, each rabbit plus vitamin C40-50 ml. Severely dehydrated, can be subcutaneously injected with 5% glucose saline solution 30ml 50ml. During the recovery period of sick rabbits, stomach-invigorating drugs were given (0.5 grams of artificial salt, 0.5 grams of gentian powder, 0.3 grams of sodium bicarbonate and 2 tablets of yeast tablet). Rabbit diarrhea is mostly caused by feed factors, so it is necessary to ensure feed quality. The grass should be fresh and clean, and the concentrate should not be moldy and spoiled. Do not let rabbits too hungry or too full, do not feed grass with water and frozen feed. Do a good job in environmental disinfection and deworming regularly. Regular addition of trace elements (such as copper) to feed is also beneficial to the prevention of diarrhea in rabbits.
