Suitable light can stimulate the secretion of sex hormones in hens, enhance the activity of ovaries and fallopian tubes, accelerate the formation and excretion of eggs and the development of fallopian tubes, so as to improve the productivity of chickens.

The unit of light intensity is candlelight or lux, and 1 candlelight equals 10.76 lux. The light intensity required for chicken foraging is generally low, and after a little familiarity, the chicken can find a trough and eat under a light intensity of less than 2.7 lux. However, in order to stimulate the pituitary gland and increase egg production, 2 to 4 times the light intensity is needed, that is, 3 watts per square meter is appropriate.
