During the rearing period, light had no direct effect on the growth of chicks, but the duration of lighting had a great effect on food intake. Generally, 1-day-old to 13-day-old chicks should be illuminated continuously for 24 hours, with a light intensity of 15 lux to 20 lux, that is, 0.37 square meters with a light source of 1 watt (with a 40-watt bulb). The aim is to make the chicks familiar with the environment and learn to feed and drink. Later, in the whole brooding stage, the light is relatively dark, with a light intensity of 5 lux (using a 15-watt or 25-watt light bulb), so that the chicks are quiet and can prevent pecking.
