Chicken blood vine (plant)

Chicken blood vine, for leguminous, angiosperm phylum, dicotyledonous class, butterfly family and other plants nickname. Evergreen woody vines, glabrous, new branches dark green, base persistent with several triangular bud scales.

Born in a forest below 1800 meters above sea level. It is also distributed in southwestern Yunnan (Baoshan, Fengqing, Lincang, Gengma), Guangxi and northeastern Myanmar.

Morphological characteristics

The stem is dark purple-green, with gray-white lenticels, the main root is yellowish brown, and the cross section is dark purple. Leaves papery, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 6-13 cm long and 3-6 cm wide, apex abruptly narrowly short acute or acuminate, base broadly cuneate or obtuse, entire or with alienated callose denticulate, lateral veins 7-10 on each side, nearly homochromatic on both sides after stem, with densely fine white glandular dots below.

Flowers unisexual, male flowers: tepals milky yellow, 14-18, with transparent fine glandular spots and ciliate, largest middle whorl, ovate or elliptic, 10-17 mm long and 8-10 mm wide; receptacle elliptic, tip elongated cylindrical, conical protruding outside stamens; stamens elliptic or subglobose, 6-8 mm in diam., with about 60 stamens; stamens 0.8-1.5 mm long. Filaments connected with anther septum into broad flat and inverted trapezoid, apex transversely long elliptic, anther locule long for stamen length 2 big 3, with conspicuous filaments; pedicel 7 × 15 mm long. Female flowers: tepals similar to those of male flowers but larger; gynoecium ovoid or subglobose, 8 × 10 mm in diam., with 60 × 70 pistils, style tip with a stigma crown, middle extending downward to base, ovules 3 × 5, superimposed on ventral suture.

Aggregate fruit subglobose, 5-10 cm in diameter, mature carpels Obovate-orbicular, tip thickly leathery, 4-5-angled. The flowering period is from May to June and the fruit ripening stage is September.

[remarks] (1) there are many species of the same name, the common ones are: Tripterygium (Tripterygium wilfordii, Tripterygium przewalskii, Tripterygium wilfordii) Millettia dielsiana Harms ex Diels.;. Millettia reticulata Benth. It is used as chicken blood vine in some areas of the south, and Millettia nitida Bent. The root is used as medicine in Guangdong and Guangxi, and the evergreen sesame vine is Mucuna sempervirens Hemsl. Fujian takes this as chicken blood vine, white flower oil sesame vine Mucuna birdwoodiana Tutch. Its vines are called Sargentodoxa cuneata (Oliv.) Rehd. Et Wils. Chicken blood vine is made in Beijing area.

(2) Yunnan Jixueteng is not made from the rattan stem of the original plant of Leguminosae, and is mainly extracted from the vines of Kadsura interior A. C. Smith and K. heterolita (Roxb.) Craib of the genus Schisandra of Magnoliaceae. The product is often called "Fengqing (formerly known as Shunning) chicken blood rattan ointment". This paste is not a single paste, but is often made by adding Achyranthes bidentata, safflower, black beans, glutinous rice and caramel. Another so-called "Luquan chicken blood rattan ointment" is made from the stems of leguminous iron rattan (Croton vine) Craspedolobium schochii Harms, often a single ointment. Due to the different sources of medicinal materials, the curative effect is also different.

Growing environment

Field sides, sunny slopes, roadside thickets or seaside sand dunes at 200-3000 meters above sea level are usually parasitic on legumes, Compositae, Tribulus terrestris and other plants.

Distribution range

Produced in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Yunnan and other provinces. Born in Iran, Afghanistan east to Japan, Korea, south to Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Australia.

Main value

The seed is used medicinally and has the functions of tonifying liver and kidney, tonifying essence and strengthening yang, and stopping diarrhea.

Character identification

The stems and vines are flat and cylindrical, slightly curved and 2~7cm in diameter. The surface is grayish brown, sometimes gray-white spots can be seen, cork exfoliation shows reddish brown, there are obvious longitudinal grooves and small dotted lenticels. The quality is hard and difficult to break, and the broken section is irregular in the shape of lobes.

The blood rattan slice is oval, long moment round or irregular oblique section, thick 3~10mm. The cut wood is reddish brown or brown, most ductal holes are irregularly arranged, and the skin has resinous secretions, showing reddish brown to black brown, and alternately arranged into 3 or 10 eccentric semicircles or rings with the wood. The pulp is small and partial to one side. Indifferent and astringent. It is better to have more resinous secretions.

Microscopic identification

Cross section of stems and vines: the number of cork cells is up to dozens of rows, micro-woody to woody, and some contain brown matter. The inner layer of the cork consists of 2-4 rows of cells containing brown substances. The cortex is narrow, more than 10 rows of cells contain yellow brown, stone cells are numerous, scattered in groups, striations and grooves are obvious, the cell cavity is full of red brown matter, a few contain calcium oxalate square crystal, some parenchyma cells around it contain calcium oxalate square crystal, the walls of crystal-containing cells are woody and thickened, and a few secretory cells are scattered. Vascular bundles are heteromorphic, which are arranged alternately between phloem and xylem into several eccentric rings. In each round, the outermost part of the phloem is a thick-walled tissue band composed of stone cells and fibers, and the cells on both sides of the band sometimes contain calcium oxalate square crystals; the secreting cells of the phloem are often tangentially arranged into layers, containing yellowish brown, reddish brown or golden secretions; the fiber bundles are numerous and scattered, and the surrounding cells contain calcium oxalate square crystals to form fibers; stone cells are few and scattered; four rows of cells with wide ray width are bent and squeezed. The cambium is obvious. There are many single or two xylem ducts scattered side by side, with a diameter of about 400 μ m, and some of the inner walls are brown lumps, mostly crescent-shaped; Wood parenchyma cells are mostly around the ducts, the walls are slightly thicker, contain brown substances, and secretory cells are scattered; the wood fibers also form crystal fibers, which are arranged in layers; the lacerations of xylem ray cells are obvious, and some contain brown substances. The medulla is small, eccentric and has a large number of cricoid secretory cells.

Powder characteristics: brownish red.

Most of the stone cells are rectangular, quasi-round, triangular or square, with a diameter of 10 ~ 80 μ m, some containing reddish brown pigment and a few containing calcium oxalate prisms.

The fiber bundles were formed, the pit and cell cavity were not obvious, and the cell bundles around the fiber bundle contained calcium oxalate prisms to form crystal sheath fibers.

There are a large number of secretory cells containing red-brown resin pigment, arranged in strips or irregular blocks.

The fragments of the ducts are mainly marginal holes.

The cork cells are polygonal on the surface and have oblong pores on the wall.

The lacunae of wood parenchyma cells are fine.

chemical analysis

Chemical identification TLC: take 2g fine powder of this product, extract it with ethanol, reduce pressure and concentrate the extract to the shape of extract, add 3 times the weight of silica gel (Qingdao Marine Chemical Plant, 60 mesh) and dry at room temperature (or bake dry). Load it into a short column and elute with chloroform until the eluent is almost colorless, then eluted with chloroform-methanol (8:2). The two eluents were concentrated to dry for sampling.

Formononetin and protocatechuic acid were used as controls. Chloroform-methanol (9:1) was used as the developer on the high-efficiency thin-layer prefabricated plate of silica gel G. Expand the distance 10cm. Observed under ultraviolet light (254nm). The spots of the eluent correspond to the positions of formononetin and protocatechuic acid.

Nutrition knowledge

Introduction to the knowledge of Tripterygium paniculata

Chicken blood vine is the rattan stem of the legume plant Mihuadou. Mihuadou is a woody vine, born in valleys, forests, streams and thickets. Distributed in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.

Harvest stems and vines in autumn, remove branches and leaves, saw them into segments and dry them in the sun. Or slice it fresh and dry it in the sun.

Chicken blood rattan stem is flat cylindrical, 2 to 7 cm in diameter, the surface is gray-brown, hard, difficult to break, the cross section is irregular lobes, red-brown color. The section is 3 to 10 mm thick, the wood section is reddish brown or brown, and the ducts are porous; there are resinous secretions in the phloem, which are reddish brown to black brown, and are arranged alternately with the wood into 3 to 10 eccentric semicircles or rings, with the pith inclined to one side, slightly gas and astringent taste.

It is better to have more resinous secretions. Supplementary information on chicken blood vine:
