If the tea tree grows naturally without pruning, the branches are rare and the crown range is difficult to expand. In order to effectively restrain the top growth advantage of tea trees, promote the germination of lateral buds, increase the number and number of effective branches, cultivate skeleton branches and form a broad and dense picking surface, young tea trees must be shaped and pruned three times.

The first trimming is very important for the formation of tea tree skeleton and must be carried out carefully to ensure its quality. The tree is 2 feet old, the seedling is 30 cm high, there are 1 to 2 branches, the stem is more than 0.3 cm in diameter at 5 cm from the ground, and it is pruned about 15 cm above the ground. The cutting mouth should be tilted to the inside, and the axillary buds in the interrow direction should be retained as far as possible, so as to induce the new branches to extend between the rows. The cut should be smooth, do not cut crack, lest Rain Water soak the wound, it is difficult to heal and affect sprouting.

The second trimming is usually carried out one year after the last trim. The trimming height can be increased by 15cm to 20cm on the last trimming mouth. This pruning can be trimmed with hedge shears according to the standard of pruning height, and then pruned to remove overlong stumps. Attention should also be paid to keeping the lateral branches between rows to facilitate the outward extension of the branches.

The third trimming can be carried out one year after the second trimming, or several batches of spring tea can be picked properly, but the sooner the trimming time is, the better, no later than late April, in order to minimize the impact on the branches. The height of this trim was increased by 10 cm to 15 cm in the last trim. Use hedge shears to flatten the tea canopy.

Through the above three stereotyped pruning, the crown expands rapidly and has a strong skeleton, so it can properly leave leaves for picking, harvest high and raise low, and enhance branch density. In the following two years, the cut of the previous year was raised by 5cm to 10cm for plastic pruning. The shrub type tea tree makes the crown slightly curved, while the tree type and semi-tree type still maintain the horizontal crown in order to further expand the picking area and increase the germination density. After three times of shaping and pruning and two years of shaping and pruning, the broad and intensive picking surface has been basically completed, and it can be formally put into mining and gradually enter the peak mining period.

For the large-leaf tea area, the segmented pruning method successfully studied by the Tea Institute of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other units in the 1960s can be adopted. The standard of fixed shearing of newly planted tea seedlings (transplanted tea garden) is 0.4 cm in diameter of main stem and 12 cm in height (18 cm in current densely planted tea garden), and then cut every 20 to 30 days, minus 1 quarter of the total number of branches each time. The standard is branch Lignification or semi-Lignification, stem diameter 0.3 cm 0.4 cm, 7 leaves 8 leaves. The height of each pruning is increased by 8cm on the original basis, and the trimming height is changed to flat cutting once a year after 3-year segmented pruning. In addition, the method of bending branches can also be used. the suitable time for bending branches is early February, late September and late October. The mastering standard is that the stem of the branch is 0.4 cm in diameter, 30 cm in height, 15 cm above the ground, and the angle is 100 ~ 110 degrees. The bending branch is cut flat for one year. The method of bending branches can obviously promote branches, make full use of branches, spread quickly, increase biological yield by 1.65 times, and increase yield by 27%-40%. It is an effective measure for rapid gardening.
