Tea garden tillage can loosen the soil layer, improve permeability, facilitate the growth and reproduction of aerobic microorganisms, accelerate material decomposition and transformation, so as to improve soil fertility. Soil organic matter can be increased by tillage and burying weeds and litter of tea trees. Turning the deep soil to the soil surface is beneficial to the soil ripening and improvement and thickening the living soil layer. In the process of tillage, it is inevitable to damage part of the tea root system, which can play the role of root renewal, which is more necessary for the transformation and rejuvenation of the aging tea garden.

Tea garden tillage can be divided into two types: shallow ploughing and deep ploughing.

1. Shallow ploughing.

The main function of shallow ploughing between rows of tea garden is to break the soil layer, improve soil ventilation and permeability, and eliminate weeds in tea garden. Shallow tillage did little damage to the root system of tea trees. The tea garden is ploughed many times every year, and good results can be obtained. Tea gardens with many weeds usually carry out shallow ploughing and weeding before each topdressing. The times of shallow ploughing should be increased in summer and autumn, when weeds are most likely to grow. When shallow ploughing, strive to bury the grass completely in the soil.

The adult tea garden ploughed and weeded 3-4 times a year, turning 15-20 cm between winter and spring for the first time, and then between rounds with a depth of 5-10 cm to keep the soil pine and grass clean.

2. deep ploughing.

The depth of deep ploughing between rows of tea garden is generally more than 20 cm, and its effect on improving mature soil is stronger than that of shallow ploughing, but it does more damage to roots. Therefore, it must be mastered flexibly according to different types of tea gardens.

Deep ploughing of soil in aging tea garden should be combined with crown regeneration. The depth and width of deep ploughing are relatively large, the general row spacing of 1.5 meters of tea garden, not more than 50 cm × 50 cm is appropriate, and should be combined with the application of a large amount of organic fertilizer.
