Why do newborn piglets use iron dextran to supplement iron?

-

Oh, it's easy to absorb.

Due to the low iron content in breast milk after birth, iron deficiency in young animals is a common phenomenon. Among all kinds of livestock, iron deficiency is the most prominent in piglets.

Iron supplement method

You'd better replenish the iron twice. First, piglets must be supplemented once within 3 days after birth, and then the second time around 17 days. Clinical studies have shown that the iron reserves of piglets at birth, iron supplements within 3 days and iron obtained from breast milk will be completely consumed at the age of 17, so it is necessary to carry out secondary iron supplements. The results showed that the average weight gain of piglets increased 20g/d within 15 days after weaning, and 150~200mg iron was added at 17 days of age. Iron supplementation also had a significant effect on the growth of high-yield sows and weaned piglets.

Iron must be disinfected needles and syringes, injection needles thin and long (8-9 needles), deep intramuscular injection, several injections in a litter of pigs, and alcohol disinfection at the injection site. Sows take iron threonine to supplement iron. Iron threonine is different from other inorganic iron agents. Iron threonine is a chelate of threonine and iron because the amino acids that make up fetal body protein can be easily transmitted to the fetus through the placental barrier of sows and to piglets through the mammary glands. Therefore, iron threonine can be added to the diet of pregnant and lactating sows to achieve the purpose of supplying iron to piglets and fetuses. Adding 0.15% has the best effect. The above iron supplement method, injection method, accurate dose, convenient, fast action, high hemoglobin and daily gain of piglets were superior to other iron supplement methods.

Matters needing attention in the operation of iron supplement

The dose of iron should be appropriate: the dose of iron is not enough to achieve the purpose of iron supplement, excessive iron will inhibit the absorption of other trace elements in the intestines. Excessive absorption of iron can be deposited in some organs of the body, such as the heart, liver, pancreas, etc., which will lead to hemoglobin deposition. In the iron supplement process, do not use the following drugs: such as preparations containing aluminum, magnesium and calcium, these preparations can form insoluble complexes or precipitates in the intestines. For example, tetracycline and iron form complexes; chloramphenicol can reduce or invalidate iron; potassium iodide, carbonate, tannins and other iron can form precipitates; vitamin E can bind to iron to make it invalid. These drugs should not be taken at the same time during the period of iron supplement for piglets.

When using ferrous sulfate to supplement iron, it is necessary to prevent piglet poisoning: when using ferrous sulfate, open the bottle and grind it into fine powder immediately, because ferrous sulfate can not be placed in the air for a long time, it will be oxidized into toxic high-priced iron, and piglets will be poisoned after taking it.
