In order to make timely mating of estrus sows, a more practical and accurate way is to master the characterization of sows after estrus, and choose the breeding time according to the characterization, which can be summarized as "four looks":

1. Look at the vulva: the vulva of oestrus sows changes from hyperemia, redness and swelling to purplish red and dull, swelling begins to subside and wrinkles appear.

two。 Look at the mucus: thick and turbid mucus flows from the vulva of estrus sows, often with bedding grass.

3. Look at the expression: the estrus sow is dull, likes to lie down, and the person touches his back with his hand, stands still, his ears stand upright, and presses his buttocks with his hand, that is, he does not refuse, but moves closer to the direction of the hand. at this time, the conception rate is the highest.

4. Look at the age: as the saying goes, "the old mating is early, the little is late, and the old is not many in the middle", that is, the oestrus duration of the old sow is short, and the oestrus is matched in the afternoon on the same day; the reserve sow (younger) has a longer estrus and is usually mated on the third day. Middle-aged sows (parturient sows) should be mated on the second day.
