When the egg market is good, some chicken breeders will increase the amount of vitamin feeding in order to increase the egg production of laying hens, but as a result, laying hens suffer from excessive vitamin disease, which hinders the growth and laying of laying hens. The addition of vitamins in layer feed must be carried out strictly according to the standard, and increasing the dosage at will will harm the health of laying hens.

Laying hens

Vitamin A: the appropriate content of vitamin A per kilogram of feed for laying hens is 4000 international units. When the feeding amount exceeds the standard, it can cause excessive vitamin An in laying hens, such as depression or convulsions, decreased food intake, no food in serious cases, and feathers fall off.

Vitamin D: the appropriate content of vitamin D per kilogram of feed for laying hens is 500 IU. When the feeding amount exceeds the standard, it can transfer a large amount of calcium from the bone tissue of laying hens, promote the absorption of calcium in the gastrointestinal tract, increase the concentration of blood calcium, and calcium deposits in arterial walls, joints, renal tubules, heart and other soft tissues, characterized by loss of appetite, diarrhea, kidney stones, and laying hens often die of uremia.

Vitamin E: the suitable content of vitamin E in laying hens is 5 international units per kilogram of feed. Excessive feeding will cause fat metabolism disturbance in laying hens, resulting in overweight or poisoning death.

Vitamin K: the suitable content of vitamin K in laying hens is 0.5 mg per kg feed. When overfed, it irritates the stomach and intestines, resulting in inflammation of the mucous membrane, which is characterized by a sharp loss of appetite and dysentery in laying hens, resulting in a decrease in egg production and, in severe cases, stopping production.

Vitamin excess in laying hens mainly depends on prevention, and layers' diets are reasonably prepared according to feeding standards. For sick chickens, they should immediately stop feeding vitamins and provide adequate drinking water, and generally recover gradually within 2 weeks.
