The high humidity in the greenhouse leads to the occurrence of diseases on the fruit surface of thick-skinned cantaloupe, and spraying chemicals will form drug spots on the fruit surface and increase agricultural residues, which will seriously affect the commerciality and safety of muskmelon. For this reason, bagging cantaloupe, after years of experiments, the production of cantaloupe is not only smooth peel, bright color, good commerciality, but also reduce pesticide pollution, improve quality and increase efficiency, which is well received by the market. The key techniques of muskmelon bagging are introduced as follows:
Melon bagging
1. Suitable season: early ripening in spring and delayed cultivation in autumn are suitable for greenhouse muskmelon. Bagging for summer cultivation is easy to cause diseases because of high temperature and humidity in the bag, so it is generally not suitable to be used.
Second, variety selection: after bagging, the surface light of muskmelon is weakened, photosynthesis and dry matter accumulation are affected, which will lead to the decrease of sugar content of muskmelon. Therefore, it is best to select high-sugar light-skinned varieties for bagging cultivation. After bagging, the net pattern type varieties are often affected by the high temperature and humidity in the bag, resulting in the decline of merchandise, so they should be used with caution.
Third, bagging choice: the bag has low cost, is not easy to be damaged, and has no adverse effect on the growth of muskmelon. According to the material, it is divided into paper bags and plastic bags. Paper bags are made of newsprint, sulfuric acid paper, Kraft paper, old newspapers, pear paper, etc., and most of the plastic bags are transparent. Bagging size can be determined according to the size of cantaloupe, so as not to affect the growth of cantaloupe. Before use, cut off a corner at the bottom of the bag to disperse the transpiration water of the melon body into the air to avoid stagnant water in the bag and reduce the disease. In general, white melon does not have high requirements for light transmittance of paper bags, and all types of bags can be bagged, while yellow muskmelon had better choose bags with good light transmittance, such as newsprint, sulfuric acid paper bags and transparent plastic bags, otherwise the color of the pericarp becomes lighter.
Fourth, bagging time: bagging is generally carried out about 10 days after flowering and pollination, when the cantaloupe grows to the size of goose eggs. Bagging too early is easy to cause damage to young melons and affect sitting melons; bagging too late will reduce the bagging effect and effect. The protective broad-spectrum fungicide can be sprayed evenly in the facility one day before bagging. Bagging is carried out after 10:00 on a sunny day, when there is no dew in the shed and when the melon noodles are dry.
Fifth, bagging method: muskmelon should be bagged with suitable fruit section position (generally 12-14 nodes), proper shape and no diseases and insect pests. Before bagging, the residual flowers on the pedicel should be removed so as not to infect cantaloupe after being infected by bacteria. When bagging, first open the paper bag with your hand, then take the paper bag in one hand and the melon handle in the other, gently cover the paper bag on the cantaloupe, fold and seal the mouth of the bag with both hands, and fix it with paper clips or grafting clips to prevent the bag from falling off. When bagging, be careful and gentle, and try not to damage the hairs on the cantaloupe. After bagging, attention should be paid to protect the bag in the process of field management operation to avoid damage.
Sixth, management after bagging: after bagging, cantaloupe is not easy to be infected with diseases and insect pests because of isolation from the outside world. Plant protection is mainly to protect leaves, generally spraying a variety of compound fungicides during the growing period. The temperature management and water and fertilizer management during the growing period of cantaloupe are the same as the routine.
Seventh, take off the bag time: generally take off the bag 5-7 days before the muskmelon is ripe, in order to promote sugar accumulation. Yellow-skinned cantaloupe varieties had better take off the bag about 7 days before ripening, so as not to affect the peel coloring. High sugar white skin varieties can be picked with melons after ripening, and the bags can be taken off when packing.
