Why do newborn calves get ascariasis? when grazing or house feeding, cows feed on aquatic plants with infectious Ascaris eggs, which vertically infects the fetus through the placenta, so calves are born with ascariasis, called calves new ascariasis, which is mainly parasitized on 1-3-month-old calves, characterized by severe dysentery, emaciation and anemia. if there is no timely treatment, it can lead to death and high incidence of infection. It's a big loss. Effective pretreatment should be carried out.

Calf

1. Clinical symptoms:

Calves are lethargic, lethargic, anorexic, unable to eat milk or lack of energy, do not like activities, forcibly drive, stand unstable or can not stand up, like to crawl and lie, most diseased steaks are gray and white with mucous paste feces, calves with many parasitic roundworms, many rows of purulent blood or blood dysentery. There are fishy and smelly feces, oily objects floating on the surface, hand twist, greasy oil, abdominal pain in cattle, and sometimes worms in feces, but a small number of diseased cattle have no diarrhea, only lethargy, no breast feeding, dilated abdomen, rough back hair, white visible mucosa, sour breath from cattle, intestinal obstruction or intestinal perforation when a large number of parasites are parasitic. In the later stage of the sick cow, many limbs are weak, the animal body is thin, muscle relaxation, the lower limbs and mouth and nose are cold, can not afford to crawl, serious anemia, dyspnea, cough and asthma, severe failure and death.

Second, diagnosis:

Calf new ascariasis, with dysentery, is easy to be mistaken for calf dysentery. It is often treated according to dysentery, but it is ineffective by antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory treatment, so it can be diagnosed by differential treatment. Then using the water floating method to test cow dung, the worm eggs can be detected for diagnosis.

3. Prevention and treatment:

New ascariasis of calves can be prevented and treatable. If it can be prevented early, infection can be avoided. If early detection, early treatment, the effect is also very good. The effective methods are:

1. Prevention:

(1) isolation calf feeding: because the adult eggs parasitic in the calf's small intestine can be excreted with the feces and develop into infectious eggs in the outside world, the calves should be locked up in one circle and raised in isolation. Calf feces and its contaminated mat grass should collect compost and fermentation, do harmless treatment, kill insect eggs, and cut off the feeding path of pregnant calves. Avoid calves scattered, avoid pregnant cattle infection.

(2) do a good job of pregnant cattle hygiene: pregnant cattle barn feces should be removed in time, keep warm, dry and hygienic, non-humid, well ventilated, change bedding grass frequently, and avoid pregnant cattle from eating grass and water contaminated by insect eggs. Do not feed grass on the ground and do not drink dirty water contaminated by worm eggs. Can put the feed trough high, drink clean drinking water, effectively prevent ascariasis. Do not eat and live in the same circle with the cow, otherwise it will increase the chance of infection in the cow, which can not be ignored.

2. Treatment:

(1) Serimidazole hydrochloride: serimidazole hydrochloride, also known as tetraimidazole and trimethoprim, is a broad-spectrum, high-efficiency, low-toxic anthelmintic and a specific drug for the treatment of ascariasis in calves. Take 12-15mg per kilogram of body weight. Generally, Ascaris lumbricoides were knocked down 2 days after treatment. Levamisole hydrochloride tablets can also be used, each cow 300mg, oral, also has a good effect. It can also be treated with high-efficient, low-toxic, broad-spectrum ivermectin tablets according to bovine body weight 1 tablet / 10kg (each tablet 50mg). If it can be matched with deworming net, the effect is better. One insect repellent is used at an interval of 2 weeks, and then another insect repellent is used to improve the curative effect.

(2) if the calves have diarrhea, they can take oral rehydration, dissolve salt 3.5g, baking soda powder 2.5g, potassium chloride 1.5g, white sugar 20g in 11 water, and drink freely, such as adding sorghum with Xieliting, silicon carbon silver, charcoal foam or fried sorghum, the antidiarrheal effect is stronger.

(3) for seriously ill and extremely emaciated cattle, glucose can be supplemented with 5% glucose 500ml, hydrocortisone 50ml, gentamicin 200000 units, 10% calcium gluconate 20ml, vitamin C injection 100ml, vitamin B2 injection 250ml, mixed, intravenous injection.

(4) if abdominal pain is found in diseased cattle, 10 ml5% analgin injection plus 1 million units of penicillin can be injected intramuscularly. For calves with dilute disease, generally speaking, it can be cured by one time deworming.
