A grower in Guanshan Village, Nanfeng Street, Xianju County recently developed a "tomato regeneration technology." tomatoes that could only grow two seasons a year could be planted for three seasons, and the annual profit of a greenhouse increased by more than 10,000 yuan. The science and technology department of the county has promoted this technology throughout the county. This grower is Chen Tianzhong, secretary of the party branch of Guanshan Village, who has been rated as a "science and technology demonstration household" in the county for three consecutive years and known as a "vegetable expert."

Chen Tianzhong is proud of the economic benefits that "tomato regeneration technology" has brought to the villagers. Speaking of the process of research, Chen Tianzhong said: "if you want to be a dedicated person in life, always pay attention to what's going on around you, and sometimes it will bring you unexpected gains."

While experimenting with new varieties of tomatoes, he inadvertently found that the tomatoes that had been harvested had sprouted and blossomed again, so he remembered that he had seen eggplant regeneration technology in relevant books, so he thought, "can tomatoes regenerate as well as eggplant?" Chen Tianzhong pruned, fertilized and recorded the tomatoes in detail. Unexpectedly, the normal tomatoes had not yet been sown, and the recycled tomatoes had been harvested, a whole season longer than normal tomatoes. So Chen Tianzhong sorted out his notes and named this technology "Tomato Regeneration Technology". This year, he used this technology to grow all the two tomato greenhouses. As a result, the output of one greenhouse increased by more than 3000 kilograms, and the economic benefit of more than 10, 000 yuan was obtained in one season alone. He said that the comprehensive benefits of "tomato regeneration technology" should be calculated in this way: it not only saves a lot of labor, but also saves fertilizers and seeds, and increases the yield of one season.

Now, "Tomato Regeneration Technology" is being promoted throughout the county.

Why was Chen Tianzhong able to develop "tomato regeneration technology"? Was it just by accident, as he himself said?

In 1998, Chen Tianzhong first contracted 9 mu of arable land in the village to lead the villagers to grow vegetables in the greenhouse. At that time, because of the lack of skills, many villagers were worried about bad seed and were skeptical and refused to take action. Chen Tianzhong understands that the villagers' worries are not unreasonable. Technology is the key to grow vegetables in out-of-season greenhouse. To this end, he bought various kinds of vegetable planting technical books, studied them carefully at night, and soaked in the fields all day with notes, recording in detail the temperature, humidity, and light of planting management, as well as vegetable growth, flower color, fruit shape, and so on. After more than 3 months of careful cultivation, the income of the three greenhouses is tens of thousands of yuan. The villagers saw the hope of getting rich in him and began to learn skills and grow out-of-season vegetables. In order to better instruct the villagers to grow vegetables, Chen Tianzhong and the village "two committees" team studied and decided to spend a lot of money to hire agrotechnical experts from Xuchang, Henan Province. Guanshan vegetable greenhouse suddenly developed to 106. each vegetable greenhouse created an annual economic benefit of more than 4000 yuan, and the villagers tasted the sweetness of growing vegetables in the greenhouse.

But at this time, Chen Tianzhong was thinking about another question: the economic benefit of growing vegetables in greenhouse is several times higher than that of traditional crops, but can it be doubled on the current basis? To achieve this goal, we can only rely on technology, so he began to introduce new varieties and conduct comparative experiments.

In 2001, he began to introduce tomato "Shanghai 906" and planted 0.5 mu of land. It was found that the variety tasted better, especially raw, but the yield was low, the economic benefit was not high, and it was not suitable for planting.

In 2002, he introduced the Dutch high-quality tomato variety "Baili". As there was no relevant technical data for growing this variety, he groped for it himself, but the tomato planted was not ideal in color and fruit shape, and consumers were not willing to buy it and were not suitable for planting.

After the failure to introduce two new varieties, Chen Tianzhong was not discouraged. He thought that the introduced new varieties should be compared and tested. In 2003, he also introduced two kinds of tomatoes, "Zhe Fan 202" produced by Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and "Jinlong Pink" produced by Hangzhou vegetable Research Institute. Through trial planting and comparison, it was found that the "Zhe Fan 202" tomato produced by Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences not only tastes good, but also has good fruit shape and color, so it is very popular with consumers in the market. More importantly, the yield of this variety is high. The heaviest tomato he planted is 0.6 kg. The economic benefit is very high.
