Generally speaking, light frost will not cause great harm to strong seedlings, but the low temperature of 0 ℃ for more than 5-6 hours is very harmful. Should be prepared for frost prevention according to the weather forecast, there are generally the following three methods.

1. Coverage method. Tomato frost usually occurs within a few days after planting in the open field, and the ideal anti-freezing effect can be achieved by mulching because the seedlings are small.

Cover straw curtain: cover the light straw curtain gently on the eve of the frost, be careful not to break the seedlings, and then gently take it away after the temperature rises the next day.

Film covering method: gently stick the plastic film on the seedling border, and press the two ends on the ridge with mud or bricks, generally, the low temperature of-1 ℃ can be safely avoided, and the low temperature below-2 ℃ will cause freezing damage to the leaf stem, but there will be no big frost damage.

Cap covering method: plastic cups, small flowerpots or thick paper cups used in seedling breeding will cover each seedling before frost. Paper cups and plastic cups should be pressed with earth to prevent scratching. Generally-2 ℃, the plant will be safe and sound.

Soil covering method: if the seedlings are small, there is no watering in the border, and the soil is soft, you can gently move the seedlings down, cover them with a shovel, and then pick them out slowly after the frost the next day, which is effective in preventing frost, but it takes more work.

The plants cultivated in small high border are easy to be crushed, and the latter two methods can be used.

2. Watering method. Pour enough water before frost, because moisture condensation can also release part of the heat, after watering can generally avoid 0 ℃ frost harm.

3. Smoking method. When frost comes, light haystack smoke, smoke can make moisture condensation, release part of the heat, but also can isolate cold air attack, generally 0 ℃ frost can also avoid.

The above is for reference only.
