Notes on field snail culture

The cultivation methods of field snail include special pond culture, rice field culture and mixed culture of fish and snail. Special pond culture pond area should be small, soft soil, sufficient water. Aquatic plants such as bamboo shoots and arrowheads can be planted properly in the pond to make full use of the land and create a hidden ecological environment for field snails. The quality of water in the culture pond is one of the keys to the success or failure of field snail culture. Note: Water containing large amounts of iron and sulfur must not be used.

The optimum water temperature for field snail culture is 20℃-26℃, when feeding is vigorous. When the water temperature rises to 30℃-33℃, the snail will dive into the soil for summer, do not eat and do not move nor grow. The meat becomes hard and bland. Therefore, attention must be paid to adjust the water temperature below 26℃. The water depth of cultivation is generally 30 cm. In winter, in order to increase the water temperature, it can be reduced to about 20 cm. These quantities of water are not only needed for the reproduction of field snails, but also for the defense of enemies.

Paddy field and raise field snail, choose the marsh field that does not dry up all year round and wet, most suitable for field snail life. Organic fertilizer and weeds in rice fields can supply snails for food. When stocking density is relatively high, some artificial bait can be supplemented. Under the shade of rice, field snail growth can be maintained in summer. Therefore, raising snails in rice fields is a simple and labor-saving breeding method, but attention should be paid to avoiding the use of pesticides, otherwise it will be poisonous to field snails.

Field snails can be mixed with one-year-old carp species, feed carp feed, after decomposition in the soil, for field snail feed. However, it is not suitable to be mixed with two-year-old carp, because this individual carp will swallow the field snail. It can also be mixed with other fish or aquatic animals. Sometimes in order to improve the yield of famous aquatic products, field snails are used as high-quality feed for herring, turtle and turtle breeding.

In its natural state, field snails grow fastest in the first three to four months, then gradually slow down and stop growing after two years. Therefore, during the artificial cultivation period, the snail should seize the opportunity and fully feed it to grow in a short time. In this way, the snail meat is large and soft and delicious, which is inferior to that of natural ones, and the yield is also higher.
