Pig breeding is the basis of pig herd proliferation and the core of the whole pig production. Because the use of breeding pigs has a fixed number of years, the natural mating time of boars generally does not exceed 2 years, sows do not exceed 8 births, semen collection boars use for 3 ~ 4 years, sows do not exceed 8 births, and the production performance of breeding pigs varies greatly among individuals. Therefore, only by implementing a scientific and reasonable system of elimination and renewal of breeding pigs can we stabilize or improve the production level of breeding pigs and improve the economic efficiency of pig farms. So, how to eliminate and renew breeding pigs?

Calculate the relevant data of elimination and renewal of breeding pigs.

Now take 100 basic sows as an example, the pig farm delivery index is 2.3, the calculation is as follows:

Boars: under the condition of natural mating, the ratio of boars to sows should not exceed 1 ∶ 20, then 100 basic sows need 100 / 20 boars. The number of annual renewal heads is 5 / 2 = 2.5 (that is, 2 to 3 annual updates).

Sows: 8 parturients were reproduced according to one effective life cycle, and each sow produced 2.3 parturients per year, the average service life of sows was 8 / 2.3-3.48 ≈ 3.5 years. The annual elimination rate is 1 / 3.5 × 100% / 28.6% ≈ 30%.

The pig farm of 100 basic sows should be eliminated and renewed at 100 × 30% per year, and the number of heads to be eliminated and renewed per month should be 30 / 12 = 2.5 (in the case of a large pig farm, the number of heads eliminated and renewed each week should also be calculated).

Update in accordance with the general principles of breeding pig elimination

The above data are calculated in theory, and the breeding pigs should be eliminated and updated in practice according to the following principles.

Principles for eliminating sows:

First, the elimination age and body weight have reached the breeding standard, but continue to raise reserve sows that do not have estrus after 2 or 3 estrus.

Second, eliminate sows that are determined not to be in estrus 60 days after weaning.

Third, eliminate sows that have returned to love for 3 or 4 times in a row.

Fourth, eliminate sows with less than 6 births or stillbirths and many weak or uneven births in two consecutive births.

Fifth, eliminate sows with less than 6 pairs of nipples, abnormal development, overturned nipples or blind nipples or accessory nipples, and poor lactation.

Sixth, eliminate sows with bad motherhood, addiction and low feeding rate.

7. Eliminate sows with slow feeding, overweight and fat body, slow movement, dull skin and godless eyes.

Eighth, eliminate the sows that produce abnormal offspring.

9. Eliminate sows suffering from disease or disability, older age and declining production performance.

The elimination principle of boars: generally based on the number of years to be used, but the boars with bulky body, poor semen quality, poor mating performance and violent temperament should also be eliminated in time.

The vacancy after elimination should be filled at any time with ideal reserve breeding pigs.
