In summer, the temperature is high and the weather is hot, cows are easy to produce heat stress. In order to reduce the adverse effects of high temperature on dairy cows, in addition to the corresponding measures taken from dairy farm construction, feeding management, disease prevention and control, necessary feeding regulation must be carried out to ensure the safety and efficiency of dairy cattle feeding.

1. Feeding green and juicy feed

Green and juicy feed is rich in carbohydrates and water, not only palatability, but also thirst quenching, heatstroke prevention and cooling and relief of heat stress in dairy cows is very beneficial. On the premise of ensuring adequate intake of dry matter, proper feeding of high-quality green grass, carrots, wax gourd, watermelon, potato, etc. is beneficial to improve milk yield and milk fat percentage of dairy cows. Concentrate feed can be fed some bran, soybean meal and other palatable good feed.

II. Feeding gruel

Change some concentrate of dairy cows into porridge. With 1.5 kg concentrate feed, carrot 1.5~2.5 kg, add water to boil porridge, cool after pouring on silage feed, can increase the milk cow urine volume, take away more heat from the cow body.

III. Feeding mung bean soup

Mung bean soup has the function of clearing away heat and toxic materials and preventing heatstroke. Conditional farm households (households) in summer should give cows to drink mung bean soup. 1~ 1.5kg of fresh mung bean, 4~ 5kg of water, boiling for 1~ 2h, adding clean drinking water, drinking once a day.

IV. Potassium chloride supplement

When heat stress occurs in dairy cows, the excretion of potassium increases significantly, resulting in a decrease in potassium content in the blood, and potassium must be supplemented. Potassium chloride can generally be added to drinking water or in the diet of dairy cows, and the amount added is 60~80 grams per cow per day.

5. Supplement sodium bicarbonate

Supplementing sodium bicarbonate is beneficial to maintaining the acid-base balance in dairy cows, and also has the effect of helping digestion, which can improve the feed intake of dairy cows. Sodium bicarbonate is typically used in 3.84% of concentrate, or 340 grams per cow per day. Use with citric acid for better results. It should be noted that when using sodium bicarbonate, the amount of salt should be appropriately reduced.

VI. Vitamin C supplementation

Cows produce heat stress, vitamin C synthesis capacity decreased, but the amount required increased. Therefore, in hot summer, attention should be paid to vitamin C supplementation for cows. In the process of heat stress, vitamin C can also inhibit the rise of cow temperature, promote appetite and improve disease resistance. In summer, 0.04~0.06% vitamin C can be added to dairy cattle feed.

VII. Vitamin E supplementation

Vitamin E can prevent oxidation and destruction of fat in dairy cows, prevent the production of oxides in the body, prevent other vitamins from being oxidized, and promote the absorption of vitamin A and vitamin D in the intestine. In summer, vitamin E can be added to the feed 3 to 5 times the normal amount to reduce the probability of heat stress in dairy cows.
