Cultivation methods of mimosa
Mimosa is a perennial herb or subshrub of Leguminosae. Mimosa has scattered plant shape, slender and beautiful feather leaves, flowers, leaves and pods all have good ornamental effect, strong habits, rapid growth, and easy to survive. It is suitable for potted flowers on balconies and indoors, and can also be planted in courtyards and other places. Let's take a look at the culture methods of mimosa.
Growth habits of mimosa
The shy steppe is native to tropical America, and is distributed in Taiwan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places. It is born in wilderness and bushes. The Yangtze River valley is often cultivated for ornamental, like warm, humid, sunny environment, suitable for good drainage, rich in organic matter in sandy loam, strong plant body, rapid growth, strong adaptability.
Sowing and propagation of mimosa
Mimosa is a taproot plant, with few fibrous roots, which is suitable for sowing and reproduction, and it is best to adopt the method of direct seeding to avoid root injury by transplanting. If transplanting is necessary, it should be transplanted at the seedling stage, otherwise it is not easy to survive. As an annual mimosa, it is generally sown indoors in early spring. Can use small pot direct seeding, can also use shallow pot to raise seedling to plant separately. The sowing soil is mixed with 20% rotten leaf soil, 30% garden soil and 50% fine yellow sand after sieving. When sowing, put an appropriate amount of culture soil in the basin, smooth and compaction, sprinkle water with a spray pot, sow immediately after all the water permeates, sow 1 million seeds in each pot, and sow at a distance of 2 × 2 cm if seedlings are raised in a shallow pot. After sowing, cover the soil 3cm to cover the seeds, cover the basin with glass or plastic film to moisturize, put the basin in a place of astigmatism of about 20 ℃, and then irrigate the basin soil with soaking method when the soil is dry. After about 7 days, the seeds germinate and emerge.
Culture methods of mimosa
1, seedling transplanting: when the mimosa seedlings grow to 3 cm high, the seedlings sown in a shallow basin can be divided and transplanted, and the seedlings should be transplanted with soil, otherwise it is not easy to survive. After watering the seedlings in the pot, put them in a semi-shady place, wait for the seedlings to slow down, and then move to a sunny place. The direct broadcast in a small basin can be directly placed in a sunny place to grow. After the seedling grows up, you can change the pot again, but the pot should not be too large. It is generally planted in a medium-sized flowerpot of 15cm to 20cm.
2. Watering frequently: the shy prairie is a tropical plant and likes a humid environment, so it is necessary to keep the basin soil moist, watering it according to the basin soil condition in summer, about once a day, do not let the soil dry, you can often spray water to the plants. in winter, the amount of water should be reduced to prevent freezing damage.
3. Soil selection: mimosa does not have high requirements for soil, and general garden soil is fine, but if you want mimosa to grow better, choose more loose and fertile soil, which can make the mixture of saprophytic soil and sandy soil. Humus soil is also a good choice.
4. Plenty of sunshine: mimosa likes sunshine, so it is best to put it on a sunny balcony or by the window. Full exposure to sunlight is good for mimosa growth. If there is too little sunlight, it may hinder its growth.
5. Prevention of freezing injury: mimosa is suitable for growing in a warm environment, between 20 and 28 degrees. If the temperature is too low, it will stop growing. In winter, because the temperature is too low, it is necessary to water less to avoid freezing damage to the roots. Watering should be chosen when the temperature is higher in a day. If the temperature is lower than 10 degrees, it is best to give certain protective measures.
6. prevention of diseases and insect pests: mimosa generally has few diseases and insect pests, and the most common pest is slug. If found, you can sprinkle some lime powder to control it. If the plant does not grow well, check to see if the light source is insufficient or the water is not enough.
7. Reasonable fertilization: mimosa can be fertilized once a month, but some people think that the potted mimosa grows too big and does not look good, so people who think so should not apply fertilizer.
