Turtles, which combine medicinal, edible and ornamental, are being favored by the majority of farmers. How to benefit from turtles has always been concerned by farmers. Now several key benefits of turtle farming are described below for farmers' reference.

I. correct selection of varieties

Whether the selection of varieties is correct or not directly affects the economic benefits. There are 257 species of turtles in the world, which are divided into ornamental, medicinal and edible categories according to their uses. Before introduction, it is necessary to investigate the turtle market (local and surrounding areas) to determine which type of turtle can benefit, and then introduce it appropriately according to its own conditions (including site, capital, bait source, water source, etc.). At present, ornamental red-eared turtles are still sold in the domestic market, especially young turtles (hatched turtles at that time), which occupy the market with the advantage of low price and good quality, but most of the young turtles in the domestic market still rely on imports. The edible crocodile tortoise has the characteristics of fast growth, strong adaptability and high meat content, so it is a new breeding hot spot among turtles. Medicinal turtles such as three-line closed-shell turtles have good development prospects.

Second, to ensure the quality of seedlings

Young turtles are divided into juvenile turtles and young turtles. Young turtles refer to the turtles bred in that year. Baby turtles refer to turtles that have been kept for more than a year and weigh less than 250 grams. The selection of tortoise seedlings can be observed from the aspects of mental state, appearance, body weight and so on. The tortoise with no injury in appearance, complete claws and responsive tortoise is considered healthy. Breeding turtles refer to turtles that have the ability to reproduce. Breeding turtles are divided into two types: heated and non-heated. It is generally believed that turtles raised by heating have lower reproductive capacity and less number of eggs, so they are not suitable for breeding turtles. Introduction should go to farms with good reputation and good after-sales service or relevant professional units. Make some understanding of the farms or units supplied before introduction, including the source of turtles, breeding methods, food types, water quality, transportation methods, etc., in order to prepare for future breeding.

3. Master breeding techniques

Feeding techniques include feeding density, bait, water temperature, disease prevention and daily management.

1. Feeding density: the feeding density directly affects the growth rate and survival rate of turtles. The high feeding density restricts the growth of turtles and is easy to cause turtle disease; on the contrary, turtles grow properly and the incidence rate is low. Therefore, only when the breeding density is appropriate, can we make full use of the pond and raise the turtles well. Generally speaking, the breeding density of juvenile turtles is 60-80 per square meter, and that of adult turtles (weighing 300-750 grams) is 5-8.

two。 Bait: the growth rate, physique and resistance of turtles, and bait plays a leading role. If feeding bait that lacks certain nutrients, it will often lead to malnutrition of turtles, which in turn will lead to disease. Because turtles have different requirements for nutrients and quantity at different stages of development. At the stage of juvenile turtles, it is suitable to feed fresh bait, such as water fleas, red worms, silk worms and Daping No.2 young worms. Young turtles and commercial turtles are suitable to be fed with artificial mixed soft-shelled turtle feed, fresh poultry and cattle, pig offal and offal, and regularly mixed with nutrients, such as vitamins and trace elements.

The diet of adult turtles is basically the same as that of young turtles, but different substances need to be added to the diet in different seasons. Nutrients such as vitamin E should be added in spring, which is beneficial to turtle spawning. Antibiotics and other drugs should be added in autumn, which is beneficial to prevent diseases and make turtles survive the winter safely.

3. Water temperature: turtles are variable temperature animals. The amount of activity and how much they eat are completely controlled by the water temperature. The suitable water temperature of different kinds of turtles is different. The optimum temperature for the growth and development of most turtles is 25 ℃ ~ 30 ℃.

4. Disease prevention and control: in the turtle industry, disease prevention and control work can not be ignored. Tortoise disease is difficult to detect only from the appearance of symptoms, once found that the turtle stop eating, slow response, limb weakness and other symptoms, its condition has reached a critical level. Therefore, the disease should start from prevention, adhere to the principle of prevention first, treatment as a supplement.
