The germination of Chinese yam, a product with the same origin as medicine and food, is a very common phenomenon of plant growth, but when eating it, many consumers worry that Chinese yam will produce toxins like potatoes, resulting in the phenomenon that they dare not eat it or throw it at it. So is it really impossible to eat yam after sprouting? Let's take a look at it together.

Can I eat Chinese yam sprouting?

Yam sprouts can be eaten. The germination of Chinese yam will lead to a decrease in nutrients, and the loss of nutrients in slight germination will be very small, while germinated yams will not produce toxins like potatoes. Yams and potatoes are different species in plant classification. There are no reports of poisoning due to eating germinated yams.

If your yam germinated because of improper storage, get rid of the bud, you can still eat it, as long as the germinated part is removed. There will be some loss of nutrients in the germinated yam, so it is best to pay attention to preservation in advance so as not to let the yam sprout.

Long-term preservation method of Chinese yam

1. Room temperature ventilation and preservation method: if the ventilation facilities at home are good, you can store them in a ventilated place at room temperature. Using this method, you can generally store them for 3 to 6 months. Do not use plastic bags and newspapers for yam storage. It's best to spread them out.

2. Rice wine soaking method: this method is not often used, because if it is not used well, it will destroy the taste and quality of yam. The method is to break the yam, then soak the cut with rice wine, then dry it with a hair dryer to promote wound healing, and finally wrap it in a napkin and put it in a cool place that can be preserved for months or so.

3. Refrigerator refrigeration method: it is understood that yam can be preserved for about 3 years at a temperature of 1-4 ℃. Therefore, yams bought in summer can be refrigerated immediately in a freezer. When the yam is refrigerated, it should be separated from the fruit so as not to cause the yam to deteriorate due to the ethylene released by the fruit.

4. Cold storage method: this method is suitable for Chinese yam growers or Chinese yam processing plants to carry out mass preservation. When using this method, the temperature of the cold storage should be kept at 2: 6 ℃ for many years, so that it can be preserved for several months.

Taboos on consumption of Chinese yam

1. The starch content in yam is high, and those with fullness of chest and abdomen, dry stool and constipation had better eat less.

2. Chinese yam is a kind of tonic medicine, which is sweet, flat and hot, and people who are hot and easy to get angry should be careful to eat it. Some people like to rinse hot pot with yam, if coupled with spicy ingredients, it is even more hot, it is best to eat less.

3. People with diabetes should not eat too much yam at one time, and the amount of staple food should be reduced appropriately when the consumption is large.

Yam can't be eaten with anything.

1. Yam taboo and carp, kansui eat together, they are similar.

2. Chinese yam and kansui should not be eaten together, nor should they be taken with alkaline drugs.

3. Yam and pig liver. Chinese yam is rich in vitamin c, pig liver contains copper, iron, zinc and other metal trace elements, vitamin c encounter metal ions, then accelerate oxidation and destroy, reducing the nutritional value, so it is not suitable to eat yam after eating pig liver.

4. Yam and cucumbers, pumpkins, carrots and bamboo melons. Cucumbers, pumpkins, carrots and bamboo melons all contain vitamin c decomposing enzymes. If yams are eaten together, vitamin c is broken down and destroyed.

5. Yam and seafood. In general, seafood (including fish, shrimp and algae) contains rich protein in addition to minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus and iodine, while fruits such as Hawthorn and pomegranate contain tannic acid, which can converge if mixed food can synthesize tannin protein. It will form constipation, increase the absorption of intestinal toxins, and cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms.
