Abstract: sand fox, also known as Dongsha fox, is the smallest fox in China, its limbs and ears are slightly smaller than Firefox, and its fur is light sand brown or light brownish gray, with obvious grayish hue, light silver gray or reddish gray on the back, white and miscellaneous yellow belly, white chin, thick and soft fur all over the body, large and pointed ears, broad ears, 500-600 mm body length (excluding tail). The tail is 250-350 mm long.

The distribution of sand foxes starts from the Volga River Basin in the west and covers most of Central Asia to the east. it is mainly distributed in Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and so on. China is mainly distributed in *, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Xizang and other places.

Sand foxes are very active during the day, and there are also reports of nocturnal activities. They are good at climbing, moderate speed, inferior to other slow dogs, have a keen sense of hearing, vision and smell, wander everywhere, have no fixed living area, and migrate south in the winter snow season when it is difficult to find food. Compared with other foxes, sand foxes are more gregarious, and even many individuals live in the same cave and form small foraging groups in winter, in which there are spouses and adult children. Live in adjacent caves like Shahu City, which often take over from other animals, such as marmots.

Sand foxes are carnivores with small teeth, and rodents are the main food, followed by birds and insects. Daour ground squirrels, black hamsters and Brandt's voles account for more than 50% of the food composition of sand foxes, and other rodents, such as prairie marmot, Rattus norvegicus and jerboa, account for less than 25%. Birds are mainly larvaceae, insects are mainly locusts, including red bugs, Beetles, Tigers, Turtles and so on.

Sand foxes are very good at catching rodents, jumping into the air and then pouncing on their prey, which rarely have a chance to escape. with a pair of broad ears, they can accurately locate the running direction of their prey, and their main natural enemies include hideous cats and carved owls of African species. In addition, animals such as wolves, hyenas and shakedogs may also prey on sand foxes.
