Mink mainly at night activities, eat small rodents, but also eat mole cricket, frogs and fish. They live in caves or crevices on the banks of streams. Some breeding grounds raise mink for their fur. It has dark brown fur. North American mink is larger and has been introduced into European fur farms. The main commodity part of mink is skin. Mink, fox and Persian lamb are the three pillar commodities in the world fur market.

Mink shed construction

Shed is for mink cold, summer equipment, can be adapted to local conditions, local materials. Specifications are generally 25~50 meters long, 3.5~4 meters wide, canopy height is 1.1~1.2 meters. Some increase the span of single shed (about 8 meters), raise mink on both sides, and raise mink in the middle, which can improve the utilization rate of single shed and improve the quality of fur to a certain extent.

Cages are places for mink activity, feeding, excretion and reproduction. Cage is made of barbed wire, cell made of 1.5~2 cm wood, its specifications have a variety of. Single-story cages: cages 70 x 30 x 40 cm3 (L x W x H). The cells are 30×30×30 cm3 or 45×35×45 cm3. Double-decker cage: lower for breeding mink, upper for fur mink or young mink. The breeding mink cage is 65×60×45 cm3, the cell is 45×40×40 cm3, the fur mink cage is 50×45×40 cm3, the cell is 56×30×23 cm3, and one cell is connected to two cells. There are many mink cages, but they are simple and durable, do not affect their activities, do not run minks, meet sanitary conditions, and are easy to manage and operate. The size of the mink cage depends on the use of the mink.

Feed types of mink

1. Animal feed

Animal feed in mink breeding process usually includes fish feed, meat feed, meat by-products, dry animal feed, milk and egg feed, etc. The following small series will briefly introduce this mink feed for everyone one by one.

① Fish feed

Fish feed is one of the important sources of mink animal protein, which is widely available and cheap. There are many kinds of fish, which can be divided into two kinds: sea fish and freshwater fish. These fish except puffer fish poisonous fish, can be used as mink feed.

Fresh sea miscellaneous fish can be raw feed, so palatability strong, high protein digestibility, mild deterioration of the sea miscellaneous fish to be cooked after disinfection feed. A small number of sea fish and most freshwater fish contain thiamine toxic enzyme, vitamin B1(thiamine) has a destructive effect, often caused by vitamin B1 deficiency after raw feeding, should also be cooked after cooking feed.

When mink diet is made up of fish as animal feed, it can account for 70%~75% of diet weight, and it is necessary to mix and feed a variety of fish, and pay attention to the supply of vitamin B1 and vitamin E to ensure good production effect. If fish, meat and by-products are combined, fish can account for 40% to 50% of animal feed. Fish feed unsaturated fatty acid content is high, easy to oxidation rancidity, fish protein is also easy to corruption. The proportion of some essential amino acids is also significantly different from meat, so the effect of raising mink completely with fish is not as good as that of fish mixture, especially when the fish species are too single, the effect is worse.

② Meat feed

Meat feed is an important source of complete protein feed. It contains essential amino acids in similar amounts and proportions as mink, as well as fats, vitamins and minerals. Meat feed variety, palatability strong, all kinds of animal meat, as long as fresh, disease-free, nontoxic can be used.

Meat feed can account for 15% to 20% of animal feed in the diet, and no more than 50% of animal feed. When meat feed is used, it shall be subject to health quarantine. Those without diseases can be fed raw. The usable sick poultry meat or contaminated meat shall be eaten after high temperature harmless treatment. Those that cannot be used shall be prohibited from eating. Pork pox in addition to high temperature and high pressure treatment, try to remove some fat. At the same time, increase the amount of vitamin E fed, and match a certain proportion of low-fat small miscellaneous fish, rabbit head, rabbit skeleton or fish meal.

Meat has higher nutritional value, but the price is also higher, so it should be used rationally. In breeding period and cub growth period, we can increase the proportion of meat to feed appropriately to improve the biological value of protein in diet.

③ Meat by-products

Meat by-products, including heads, skeletons, viscera and blood of livestock and poultry, have been widely used in production practice. These products have low protein digestibility and biological value except liver, heart, kidney and blood. Therefore, the use of these by-products to feed mink quantity should be appropriate, and pay attention to other feed mix. Pay attention not to feed hormone by-products during breeding period. Meat by-products generally account for 30% to 40% of animal feed.

④ Dry animal feed

Commonly used dry animal feed fish meal, dried fish, blood meal and feather meal.

Fish meal contains 40%~60% protein and 2.5%~4% salt. Fresh high quality fish meal is used to feed mink. In the growth period of young animals, it accounts for 20%~25% of animal protein in diet, and in the non-breeding period, it accounts for 40%~45% of animal protein. Fish meal has high salt content and must be thoroughly soaked in water before use. Change water 2~3 times during soaking.

The key to raising mink with dried fish lies in the quality of dried fish. High-quality dry fish can account for 70%~75% of dietary animal feed, but in the breeding period of mink, it must be matched with 25%~30% complete protein feed (fresh meat, eggs, milk and pork liver, etc.). During the young mink's growing period and winter hair growth period, it must be matched with fresh pork or added vegetable oil to make up for the lack of dry fish fat.

Blood powder contains more than 80% protein, which contains lysine, methionine, arginine, cystine, and has a good effect on the growth of young minks and fur growth. Good quality blood powder can be fed to mink, but it is not easy to digest, so the dosage is not too high, generally accounting for 20%~25% of the daily animal feed. Feeding should gradually increase the amount of feed, and after cooking treatment with other feeds.
