Bullfrogs are native to several eastern states of the United States and were introduced to western states and other countries. Bullfrog food composition to animal feed, especially like to eat live bait. At different stages of development, feeding habits are not the same, let's take a look at what bullfrogs eat!

Feeding Habits of Bullfrog

1. Bullfrogs are carnivores with a wide range of foods, including annelids, arthropods, molluscs, fish, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Bullfrogs were reported to eat mainly animal pests of crops (82 per cent), but also a small number of beneficial animals (5.2 per cent).

Bullfrogs also devour some plant foods, mostly leaf fragments, flowers and plant seeds.

3. Bullfrogs are very gluttonous and eat a lot. According to observations, a bullfrog eats 43.7 grams of food a night. The swallowing amount of bullfrogs is related to temperature changes. When the water temperature is 21~30℃, the food intake is the most, when the water temperature is 20~14℃, the food intake is the least, and the food intake is stopped below 14℃.

Bullfrogs are also very resistant to hunger, generally enduring 4 months to a year.

What do bullfrogs eat?

Bullfrog has a wide range of food, but mainly animal food. Its feeding habits are different from those of adult frogs during tadpole stage.

1. Tadpole stage is omnivorous, with lax requirements for food. Plankton in water can almost eat, and it can also eat general fish feed, especially cooked egg yolk, raw fish meat, liver, maggots and cooked potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice bran, peanut meal, etc., and the rest such as tofu and fruit skin can be used as bait.

2. Adult frogs like to eat active bait, trapping insects, crustaceans, small fish and shrimp, snails, worms, spiders, cicadas, locusts, crickets, termites, maggots, earthworms, fish eggs and young bodies of waterfowl, etc., which must be domesticated during artificial breeding.

3. In addition, bullfrogs occasionally have the habit of eating big and small.

Bullfrog animal feed breeding

1. Breeding earthworms: Put cow dung, rotten fruit, rice washing water, etc. into the land in the bullfrog pond, mix them with soil, put in the earthworms, and let them reproduce. After a period of cultivation, earthworms emerge at night and can be preyed on by bullfrogs. Can also use sporadic wasteland, apply sufficient cow dung to cultivate earthworms, each square meter can produce 5~7 kg.

2. Light lure insects: hang 30 watts of black light or purple light above the frog pond food platform, 23 cm away from the water surface, which can lure insects, planthoppers, etc., and bullfrogs will gather under the lamp to prey at night. This method works best from May to September, turning on the lights should be after the sun goes down to midnight, more dew in the second half of the night, less insects, should turn off the lights to save electricity.

3. Breeding of golden apple snail: using sporadic ditch pond or small pond, it can also be propagated and cultivated in frog pond water. In high temperature season, a pink egg block is produced every 5~10 days. Each egg block has about 1000 eggs. The eggs break the membrane and hatch small snails as bullfrog feed.

4, silkworm breeding: the use of mulberry breeding in front of the house, silkworm growth fast, life only about 20 days, young silkworm can be used to feed young frogs, grow to 4.5~5 years old, can be used to feed adult frogs.

5, feeding Tenebrio molitor: Tenebrio molitor is the best feed for bullfrogs, easy to feed, only wheat bran and cabbage leaves can be fed. However, insects grow slowly and must be raised in larger quantities to ensure feed supply.

6, fly breeding maggots: 30 cm above the bullfrog breeding pond hanging large basin, tray, etc., put bait such as waste animal meat, fish viscera and other fly breeding maggots, when maggots climb out of the basin mouth into the water, they become frog delicacies. Can also build a small pool, put bean curd residue in the pool, then put rice washing water, etc., cover the pool surface, after a few days maggot breeding, can be fed bullfrog.

7, culture daphnia: daphnia commonly known as "red worm","fish worm", is the ideal feed for small tadpoles. First, drain the water in the culture pool, clean the pool and disinfect, sprinkle 1 kg of chicken manure, bean curd residue, etc.(or other livestock fertilizer) in each square meter of the pool, preferably after one week of sunlight exposure, irrigate 40 cm, and put in the daphnia seed source, a few days later, the pool water turns green, and a large number of daphnia can be propagated in the pool water two weeks later.

8. Utilization of leftovers: disinfect and crush the leftovers of meat joint factories and restaurants, and mix them into mixed feed for feeding. Where there are silk reeling factories, silkworm chrysalis can be used as feed, pig lungs and cow lungs can also be purchased and chopped up for feeding.

9, catch small fish shrimp: located in the river, lake or fish pond near the breeding point, can often catch wild fish, shrimp for feed.
