Masked palm civet is a forest edge beast, nocturnal animal, likes to activities at dusk, night and before sunrise, is good at climbing, is an omnivorous animal, estrus every year from February to May, the pregnancy period is 70 to 90 days, and each baby is born in summer. Let's take a look at how long masked palm civet needs to raise before she can be sexually mature.

Masked palm civet's breeding season

The breeding season is from March to July every year. From late February to early August, male civet has sagging scrotum, fleshy skin, sparse hair, dilated testis, smooth and elastic testis, hyperemia and exposure of glans, and has good breeding ability within 5 months. After entering August, the testicles gradually atrophied, and September was the minimum, with the testicular volume shrinking by 40%. The testis began to increase gradually in January, and the testicular volume reached its maximum in March.

Age of sexual maturity and first mating

The sexual maturity of females and males are 10 ~ 12 months and 18 ~ 22 months respectively. Masked palm civet lives to be 15 years old, and the breeding age is 1-10 years for female and 2-7 years for male. Sooner or later, sexual maturity is related to the time of birth, feeding conditions and nutritional level. The young beavers born before June can mature sexually at the age of 10-12 months as long as they are well nourished, but the young born after June generally mature at the age of 19-22 months, even under the same nutritional conditions. Females are in estrus from late February to mid-June, with peak estrus from late March to mid-May, during which estrus accounts for 87% of the population.

The mating process of masked palm civet

1. Amusing: male and female intimacy, chase, play and lick each other to stimulate the libido of both sides.

2. Standing reaction: due to the amusement of the male beaver, the female's libido is enhanced, the stand is unstable, the hind legs are naturally separated, the tail is raised, and the male is reviewed.

3. Climbing ejaculation: after being strongly stimulated by the standing response of the female, the male leaps suddenly, climbs across the female, puts his forelimbs around the waist, and his buttocks move forward forcefully. His eyes are in a daze, indicating that he will leave automatically after ejaculation, and the mating process will take about 7 minutes and 12 minutes.

Masked palm civet's performance in estrus

1. Proestrus: the female is restless, walks back and forth, urinates frequently, the vulva is red and swollen, the appetite drops, follows the male, but does not accept mating, this period is 3-5 days.

2. During the peak period of estrus, the female's labia is congested, everted, the complexion is flushed, the vulva is slightly open, and there is mucus flowing out, and the male beaver is allowed to mate at this time. This period is 3-8 days.

3. In the later stage of estrus, the female vulva atrophied, the swelling disappeared, and the appetite recovered, usually for 3-5 days.
