The scientific name of stone frog is spiny chest frog, also known as stone clam, stone chicken, pheasant, stone jelly, flying fish, stone scale, stone toad, stone frog, stone pit frog, stone chaos, wood locust (southern Sichuan), etc. It is an animal of amphibian anura frog family.

Adult frogs generally have a body length of 10-13 cm, a weight of more than 150-250 g, and a large frog can reach more than 500 g. Stone frogs have rough skin, dark gray skin on their backs, and a lot of oil on them. Stone frogs have broad and flat heads, rounded snouts, protruding from their jaws, and the distance between their nostrils is almost equal to the distance between their eyes. Male stone frogs of the same age are larger than females. Male frogs after sexual maturity have extremely thick forelimbs, thorny flesh thorns on their chests, and pale yellow abdomen. The female breast has no thorns and the abdomen is smooth and white.

At present, due to a large number of killings, stone frogs are one of the key protected wild animals in Jiangxi Province and Anhui Province.

Stone frogs are also widely farmed for food.
