Why do some flowers smell good?
The fragrance of flowers comes from oil cells or glycobodies.
The fragrance of the flower comes from a kind of oil cell in the petal, which constantly secretes aromatic oil with fragrance. Because the aromatic oil is easy to volatilize, when the flower blossoms, the aromatic oil will be emitted along with the moisture. This is the fragrance of the flowers that people smell.
There are also some flowers in nature, although there are no oil cells in their petals, they also smell fragrant. It turns out that their cells contain a substance called glycoplast, which itself has no fragrance, but it can also give off a fragrant smell when it is decomposed by enzymes.
Different flowers have different abilities to secrete aromatic oils and decompose glycosides, which is why some flowers smell strong and some flowers smell faint. Generally speaking, white flowers and light yellow flowers have the strongest aroma, followed by purple flowers, yellow flowers and light blue flowers. But there are exceptions, for example, white peony is not as good as purple rose, because the intensity of the fragrance is related to the variety of flowers.
The fragrance of flowers is the need of carrying on the family line.
Some flowers smell stronger in the sun, such as sunflowers. Some flowers give off a strong fragrance on rainy days or at night, such as evening primrose and gardenia. Why is there such a difference?
Because it is its own need for all kinds of plant flowers to give off different fragrances. In a word, they are all for the needs of seed and generation, and are the result of adapting to the environment. The fragrance can attract insects, and insects play a role in spreading pollen on the stamens, achieving the purpose of pollination, seed bearing and passage.
So we have to understand: flowers do not bloom because they are to be appreciated, and flowers do not smell because they are comfortable.
Not all flowers are full of fragrance
Most people think that flowers are full of fragrance. Actually, this is not the case. It is said that there are more than 200,000 kinds of flowering plants on earth, but only a small number of flowers can give off fragrance. Not all flowers in nature are full of fragrance. And any kind of flowers, color, fragrance, rhyme complete not many, a very small part of the flowers still have a bad smell, such as Houttuynia cordata flowers are very smelly.
