The characteristics of the oestrus cycle of sows are different because of the different stages of estrus. During the average estrus cycle of 21 days (1923 days), observing the symptoms of estrus and grasping the best mating time of sows is the key to improve the conception rate of sows and the productivity of pig farms. Let's take a look at the best time for sows to breed.

Characteristics of estrous cycle in sows

1. Proestrus: the sow behaves restlessly, the vulva is swollen and changes from yellowish to red. This change is more obvious in the backup sow, there is mucus secretion in the vagina, and its viscosity increases gradually. In this period, sows are not allowed to ride on their backs for an average of 2.7 days, so it is not suitable for insemination and breeding.

2. Estrus: the average estrus is about 2.5 days, which is characterized by swelling of the genitals and redness of sows, thickening of secretions and increase of viscosity. At this time, the sow is allowed to press its back without movement. when pressing the back, the sow's ears stand back and its hind legs are taut.

3. Metestrus: 1. After 2 days, the genitals of estrus sows completely returned to normal, and boars were not allowed to climb.

4. Diestrus: 13-14 days, completely returned to normal state, sows are allowed to climb or stand only during estrus, this sexual behavior can be used as an index of timely insemination of sows.

The best time for sow breeding

1. Sows with estrus within 4 days of weaning (frontal oestrus sows) generally begin ovulation at 60-72 hours after static reaction, reach the fertilization site at 30-45 minutes, and ovulate for 4-6 hours.

2. The sows (normal estrus sows) who were weaned for 5-6 days began ovulation at 40-56 hours, reached the fertilization site at 30-45 minutes, and ovulated for 4-6 hours.

3. Sows weaned more than 7 days after weaning for more than 7 days (delayed estrus sows) and reserve sows generally begin ovulation at 16-28 hours after standing reaction, reach the fertilization site at 30-45 minutes, and ovulate for 4-6 hours.

4. Dorsal compression reflex is the peak period of oestrus in sows, which means that the ovulation time of sows is coming. During this period, mating can increase the conception rate and litter size of sows.

What if the sow is not in estrus?

1. Feed the sows 16 tablets of levamisole once a day for 5 days.

2. Cut the diet of obese sows (which is the condition of most farmers) by half, and feed the whole farm sows with green feed.

3. Compared with the thinner sows, the sows were fed more feed to increase nutrition and improve fat condition.

4. Drive the non-estrous sows to the boar pen, let the boars climb down and tease, and promote their estrus.

5. Estrus stimulating hormone (compound Epimedium injection) was injected intramuscularly with 10ml of estrus.

6. Ovulation No. 3 injection was injected intramuscularly during estrus to increase the number of offspring.

7. Drive the sows to the playground for more than 4 hours a day.

8. Red soil or loess and cinder are added to the corner of pigsty or playground to increase the absorption of iron and other trace elements by sows.

9. Replenish the light at night. The light can stimulate the function of the ovary.
