Piglet paratyphoid fever, also known as porcine salmonellosis, is an infectious disease of piglets caused by salmonella. Acute is septicemia, chronic is necrotizing enteritis, which often occurs in piglets under 6 months old, especially in 2 ~ 4 months old piglets, which can occur all the year round, and the incidence is high when it is rainy and humid, cold and alternating seasons.

Symptoms of paratyphoid fever in piglets

1. Acute (septic) type

It was more common in piglets before and after weaning (2-4 months old), with elevated body temperature (41-42 ℃), refused to eat, died quickly, ear root, chest, abdomen and other places showed bruising purple spots and ear tip dry jaundice. In the later stage, he saw dysentery, dyspnea, cough and lameness, and died after 1-4 days. The incidence is less than 10%, and the case fatality rate can reach 20% to 40%.

2. Subacute type and chronic type

It is more common, similar to intestinal type of classical swine fever, showing elevated body temperature (40.5-41 ℃), chills, conjunctivitis, viscous and purulent secretions, adhesion of upper and lower eyelids, turbidity and ulcer of cornea. Show stubborn dysentery, fecal water samples, can be yellowish green, dark green, dark brown feces often mixed with blood necrotic tissue or cellulose flocs, stench. The symptoms go up and down again and again, lasting for several weeks, accompanied by weight loss and dehydration. Some of the diseased pigs developed diffuse scabby eczema in the middle and later stage of the disease. The course of the disease can last for several weeks, resulting in death or stiff pigs.

3. Acute type

Acute type of piglet paratyphoid fever showed purple spots on the skin, splenomegaly, dark blue, rubber-like, mesenteric lymph node cord swelling; liver swelling, congestion, bleeding, yellow-gray nodules; systemic mucosal and serous hemorrhage: catarrhal hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.

Preventive measures of paratyphoid fever in piglets

1. Piglet pens should be kept warm and kept clean and dry. The trough should be clean and the feces should be removed in time.

2. To strengthen feeding and management, newborn piglets should eat colostrum early, feed in advance, and do not change houses when weaning and grouping.

3. Before and after weaning, attenuated freeze-dried vaccine can be taken orally to prevent.

4. After the onset of the disease, the piglets should be isolated and treated in time, and the pigpen should be thoroughly disinfected; 100 grams of chlortetracycline can be added to each ton of feed for prevention.

5. Regular health care. According to the addition of 1 kg of Yinqiao powder and 100 grams of chlortetracycline per ton of feed or per ton of drinking water for 7 days, and 7 days before weaning, 100 grams of Lihuning can be added to the drinking water of sows and piglets for 3 ~ 5 days.

Treatment of paratyphoid fever in piglets

Enterotoxin injection is the first choice for the treatment of paratyphoid fever in piglets, intramuscular injection or intravenous injection, each set can be used for 100kg body weight, once a day, a course of treatment for three days. If the illness is serious, the dosage can be increased as appropriate. (for patients with severe illness, one injection of atropine can be given by 1-3ml per head, and bismuth subnitrite or tannic acid protein + active peptide carbon is taken orally for three days.)

Traditional Chinese medicine can also be used to treat sick piglets. The prescriptions of traditional Chinese medicine are as follows: 40 grams of Patrinia grass, 30 grams of Coix seed, 20 grams of honeysuckle, 18 grams of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 18 grams of Sophora flavescens, 18 grams of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 15 grams of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 10 grams of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 6 grams of Guang Mu Xiang, fried water for internal administration of piglets once a day in the morning and evening for 3 ~ 5 days.
