Cow winter dysentery is a seasonal and fulminant disease caused by pathogens such as Enterobacter spp. and coronavirus. it is characterized by rapid transmission, high incidence, severe diarrhea and obvious decline in milk production, and the main route of transmission is contact infection. through cross-contact of pollutants, veterinarians, sports grounds, insemination workers, etc.

Epidemic characteristics of winter dysentery in dairy cows

It broke out once in 1 or 2-3 years.

2. The resistance varies with age, and the symptoms of the first infection are more serious than those of infected cattle.

3. High morbidity and low mortality.

Symptoms of winter dysentery in dairy cows

1. The systemic symptoms are mild and the body temperature is normal.

2. Diarrhea, sparse feces are gray, brown, red, and about 20% have hematochezia.

3. Milk production decreases. After diarrhea is controlled, milk production will increase.

Diagnosis of Winter dysentery in Dairy cows

1. Feed diarrhea: it is related to the change of feed, but there are few cases of hematochezia.

2. Salmonella: most of them were acute, febrile, septicemia and high mortality, mainly occurred in calves.

3. Coccidiosis: it is more common in calves and first-born cattle, and rarely infects adult cattle. Coccidiosis eggs can be detected by fecal smear and floating method.

4. Viral diarrhea: high fever, leukopenia, ulceration of nose, jaw, esophagus and hoof.

5, true gastric ulcer: feces dark black, loose distillate, hematochezia, blood and feces mix more evenly.

Treatment of Winter dysentery in Dairy cows

The treatment of cow winter dysentery is mainly antiseptic, convergent and anti-inflammatory, and the following measures can be taken.

1. 50 grams of sulfonamidine.

2. Take 20 grams of charcoal foam, catecholamine and norfloxacin into the feed.

3. 200ml / 300ml copper sulfate solution.

4. Seriously ill cattle can be used: sugar saline, vitamin C intravenous injection, calcium supplement can also be used to prevent hypoglycemia.

Prevention of Winter dysentery in Dairy cows

1. Strengthen the disinfection of the whole house.

2. Establish a temporary isolation point, concentrate on feeding and treatment of diseased cattle, observe and return to the field after recovery.
