Viper fish is one of the fierce predators in the deep sea, also known as viper fish, is a deep-sea fish belonging to the family Megalstomidae, named for its large teeth and protruding two jaws like venomous snakes. There are many light emitting devices on its body, which are used to lure hunters to prey. Its mouth is very large, and its stomach is very elastic like rubber, so it can swallow prey as large as itself. It goes near the sea surface at night and moves into the deep sea during the day.

Viper fish is one of the most peculiar deep fish, this strange shape fish teeth are very large, its mouth can not fit its teeth, only exposed teeth, showing a very scary appearance, swimming very fast, can quickly rush to prey, with teeth firmly bite it, teeth like nails deep into its body. Moreover, because the viper can open its mouth to twice its normal size and its stomach is extremely flexible, it can swallow prey of its own size.

Viper fish is a carnivorous fish, food includes all kinds of small and medium-sized fish and crustaceans, although viper fish is not really poisonous, but its hunting ability is very high, usually lurking motionless, relying on the side and dorsal fin of the light on the prey attracted to the side, and then quickly with fangs to catch prey, because the teeth of viper bent backward, so once the prey is bitten it is difficult to escape.

Viper fish generally appear at depths of 80 to 1600 meters below the surface, some are black and have glowing organs in certain parts of the body, including a long dorsal fin used as a predator bait. Some species of viper fish (and many other deep-sea fish) do not contain any pigment, so they appear "transparent", have large eyes, collect more light in the dark sea floor, and the luminous organ emits light through some chemical process.

Viper fish is a diurnal vertical migratory fish. They stay at a depth of 1524 meters during the day and come to waters less than 609.6 meters at night. The food here is more abundant. It is distributed in the East China Sea and South China Sea in China. It is found abroad in Japan, the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean from tropical to temperate waters of 76.2~1524 meters.
