How do clownfish reproduce?
Clown fish is a common name for the fishes of the subfamily Sparidae. It is native to the warmer waters of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. It is named because there are one or two white stripes on the face like clowns in Beijing Opera. The largest body length is up to 11 centimeters. It is accepted by the majority of fish friends because of its lovely appearance, easy breeding and easy breeding. Let's take a look at how clown fish reproduce.
Reproductive characteristics of clown fish
Each clown fish population has a dominant female and several adult males, who are hermaphroditic in adolescence. If the dominant female dies, one of the adult males will undergo hormonal changes and become the new female in the population. During the spawning period, male and female fish have the domain behavior of protecting nests and eggs. One end of their eggs will be fixed to a stone and hatched for a week or so. After the young fish float in the water layer for a period of time, they will inhabit symbiotic organisms such as sea anemones.
How do clown fish breed?
1. Spawning management: clownfish should have enough space and concealment when spawning, and clownfish during mating become very aggressive, so all other fish are removed after the clown fish reach the spawning period, leaving only clown fish and sea anemones. They will lay eggs after 1 to 2 months, and then they will lay eggs every 15 days. If you do not want them to continue to lay eggs, they can be isolated.
2. Signs of spawning: the first sign of the clown fish's spawning period is that the male jumps up and down as he swims forward. Then they began to clean up a spawning place, sometimes they would arch the stones under the anemones with their mouths for several days in a row, and sometimes they would lay eggs on the glass of the fish tank.
3. Hatching of fish eggs: the color of the eggs laid by the clown fish is the same as the bright yellow on the fins. The eggs soon turn orange-red, and on the sixth day they become grayish red, and then a black spot grows at one end of the eggs. This is the embryonic form of the eyes. On the day or the day before the eggs hatch, these black spots become silver gray, when the eggs are about to hatch, and the small fry are about to break the eggs.
4. Juvenile fish management: when catching and releasing young clown fish, they should act gently to prevent them from getting hurt. When putting the young fish into the culture tank, carefully soak the container containing the young fish into the water, and then slowly rotate the container out. Never pour the young fish into the tank, which will hurt them. Keeping the clown fish dark when moving them is good for adapting to the new environment, and there is no need to turn on the lights or feed the next day.
How to raise clown fish?
1. Feeding environment: to raise clown fish, you need to create a comfortable and warm environment for it, find some living stones, build a small cave with a natural barrier for it, and maintain proper water flow in the cave. It is best to put an oval pebble inside the cave. Pebbles are attached to the mouth of the cave. Because clown fish and sea anemones are symbiotic, it is best to find a larger sea anemone and place it at the mouth of the hole to protect the clown fish.
2. Quarantine is like a tank: when raising multiple clown fish, try to put them into the tank at the same time. When the clown fish is bought back, it is necessary to carry out quarantine first. After confirming that there is no problem, it can be put into the tank. It should be noted that the suitable water temperature for clown fish is 26 ~ 27 ℃, the specific gravity of sea water is 1.022 ~ 1.023, the ph value of sea water is 8.0 ~ 8.5, and the hardness of water is 7 ~ 9 degrees. Try to adjust the water quality and water temperature to this range.
3. Adapt to feeding: after the clown fish arrives in the new environment, it may take 2 to 3 days to adapt. There is no need to feed the clown fish these days. After the adaptation period, let the clown fish open its mouth. First, feed it with harvest shrimp and slowly convert it into a thin piece of feed. When it is completely stable, pellets, minced shrimp or other omnivorous bait can be used.
4. Light control: if clown fish are raised in a bare tank, the current must be lowered at night so as not to disturb the rest of the clown fish and affect their development. And be sure to give it enough light before it grows to an adult. At this time, the fish grows faster, and insufficient light can easily affect its development.
