Kissing fish are famous for being fond of "kissing" each other. As the name implies, two fish kiss each other for a long time when they meet. In fact, this is a mild struggle. The two fish protect their territory by colliding their mouths. It just looks like kissing, so get the name. Let's take a look at how to raise kissing fish.

Fish tank size

Adult kissing fish body length can reach 20 to 30 centimeters, smaller kissing fish can also reach more than 10 centimeters, according to the fish tank and fish body length ratio at 3:1 to calculate the fish tank at least 90 centimeters, but most people buy kissing fish in about 10 centimeters, so the fish tank can be 40 to 60 centimeters long, the water quality requirements are not strict, gregarious is not obvious, swimming is very slow.

Water temperature control

Kissing fish can live in a water temperature of 1830 degrees Celsius, usually above 22 degrees Celsius. If raised in winter, you do not need to install a heater if you have heating in your home, but you only need to install a thermometer to monitor the water temperature at any time. If the water temperature cannot be maintained at about 25 degrees Celsius, you need to buy a thermostat.

Feed selection

Kissing fish have various eating habits, although they are large fish species, they are generally not interested in large water fleas, but they often open their mouths for a long time to "drink" some small water fleas in order to be full, which is also a special feeding way for tropical fish. when raising fish, they also like to suck the moss on the walls of boxes and aquatic plants with thick lips, so when raising fish, they often put a kissing fish in each box as a "scavenger". Feed can choose bread worms, broken earthworms, artificial feed and so on.

Fish species collocation

Kissing fish swim slowly and usually have a very gentle and lively temperament, so they should not be mixed with tropical fish that like quiet, nor should they be raised with strong species, such as cannibal Pomfret, Luohan fish, Sanjie, and so on. It is best to raise some species that are smaller and milder than kissing fish.

Male and female discrimination

It is not easy to distinguish between male and female kissing fish, the larvae can hardly distinguish between male and female, the adult male fin is wide and long, the body appears slender, the female is narrow, the body is broad and thick, and the abdomen is slightly bulged. when the female is sexually mature, the abdomen is dilated because it is full of eggs, which is very obvious when looking down from the top of the tank.

Reproductive management

1. Kissing fish are oviparous and fertilized in vitro, usually with a body length of more than 20 centimeters as parent fish. The breeding was carried out in a large aquarium over 80 × 40 × 40 cm. The old water was used for 5 days, the water temperature was 25 ℃, the pH was 6.8 × 7.4, and the hardness was 911. A layer of floating aquatic grass was placed on the surface of the tank.

2. the kissing fish male fish constantly revolves around the female fish, and when it reaches the appropriate position, it is wrapped in a "U" shape around the female fish, and the male fish ejaculates immediately after the female fish lays eggs. The female fish can lay 5 million to 10 000 eggs at a time, with an average of 3000 eggs. The eggs are floating eggs, floating in the upper layer of the water surface, and floating aquatic plants can prevent them from being swallowed by their parents.

3. After the kissing fish have finished spawning, the parent fish can be fished out and the eggs can be hatched artificially. The larvae can be hatched in 20 to 24 hours. After 2 to 3 days, the larvae should be fed with a large amount of gray water, otherwise they will starve to death. After 2 to 3 days, they can be fed to the big worms. At 15 to 20 days, the fast-growing larvae should be divided into two or three boxes to ensure a higher survival rate. Sometimes more than 9000 fish can survive in a litter.
